The Madras High Court, on Wednesday, granted an ad interim injunction prohibiting internet service providers and cable television operators from broadcasting Dhurandhar The Revenge without authorization. This injunction is in place until April 15, 2026, ahead of the film’s scheduled theatrical release on March 19, 2026.

Background of the Case

The order was issued by Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy during proceedings that involved applications from Reliance Industries Limited and its media subsidiary, Jio Studios. The film’s producers sought immediate legal protection against potential breaches of copyright that could arise from unauthorized broadcasting.

Reliance claimed that various intermediaries, including both internet service providers and cable operators, may attempt to stream or transmit the film illegally. It also presented the certification from the Central Board of Film Certification, confirming their role as the film’s producer.

Court’s Considerations and Directives

In its ruling, the court acknowledged the impending release date, indicating that the risk of irreparable damage to the producers outweighed other considerations if immediate relief was not provided. However, the court also recognized the potential impact on the business interests of the respondents involved in the broadcasting.

To address this balancing act, the court instructed Reliance to compensate the respondents for any possible losses that may result from the injunction. Thus, the respondents are barred from illegally broadcasting or transmitting Dhurandhar The Revenge until the specified date in April 2026.
