Late-Night Rule Break? Dehradun Police Probe Bar Operations Amid Officer Interference Claims

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent enforcement operation in Dehradun took a noteworthy turn when a senior police officer was allegedly found at a bar that was operating beyond the legally mandated hours. This situation has led the Uttarakhand Police headquarters to request a comprehensive report within a 24-hour timeframe. The incident occurred at the ‘Romeo Lane’ bar located on Rajpur Road on the night of Saturday, April 27, 2026, where it was reportedly open until approximately 1 am, despite a stipulated closure time of 11 pm for all pubs and nightclubs enforced since March 30, 2026.

A police team, under the leadership of City Superintendent of Police (SP) Pramod Kumar, was dispatched to this venue after receiving information about its extended hours. Upon their arrival, the police aimed to enforce the closure directive.

Police Action and Allegations of Intervention

As the situation intensified, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pramendra Singh Dobal later arrived at the scene and ensured that the bar was ultimately closed. This series of events has sparked ongoing discussion about the appropriateness of police protocols in such situations.

In light of the incident, authorities are currently examining CCTV footage to ascertain the necessary details and confirm the various claims being made about the events that transpired during the police operation.

Inspector General Responds to Controversy

In response to the unfolding controversy, IG Rajiv Swarup has expressed denial of the allegations implicating him in attending a late-night social gathering or inhibiting police action. He stated that he merely passed through the area with his family and questioned what he labeled as an excessively large police presence on site. He asserted, “Incorrect information is being spread about my presence.”

The Additional Director General (Law and Order) V Murugesan has taken a serious stance regarding the reports. He has directed both the Inspector General of Garhwal and the Dehradun SSP to compile and submit a detailed report concerning the incident within the specified 24-hour period.

The scrutiny surrounding this incident comes closely after the enforcement of stricter closing regulations, which was prompted by the tragic death of retired Brigadier Mukesh Joshi on March 30, 2026. Joshi, aged 74, was fatally shot in a confrontation that reportedly erupted near Johri village along Mussoorie Road. This particular incident was reportedly connected to the ‘Gen Z’ nightclub, which had also remained operational beyond permitted hours just prior to the shooting.
