A dramatic street fight broke out between two groups of lassi vendors near Barsana’s Radha Rani Temple in Mathura, drawing parallels to the now-infamous “chaat stall battle” of Baghpat in 2021. What began as a minor dispute over customer attention quickly escalated into full-scale chaos on one of the holiest roads in Braj.
Lassi Stall Rivalry Turns Violent Near Mathura’s Ladli Ji Temple
The incident occurred on the road leading to the Ladli Ji Mandir, a popular pilgrimage destination. According to police reports, tensions flared between competing shopkeepers, each trying to attract more visitors to their stalls. The disagreement soon turned violent, with both sides launching kulhads (earthen cups), sticks, and even bricks at each other in a street-side skirmish caught on camera.
The video, which quickly went viral, shows the violence erupting in front of startled bystanders. A woman, her head draped in a dupatta, was seen actively participating by throwing kulhads. A teenage girl, appearing unsure how to react, was hit on the head by one of the flying objects and collapsed in pain, prompting others to rush to her aid. It remains unclear how severe her injuries are.
No Police Present During Lassi Vendor Clash, Says SP; Action Promised
Authorities confirmed that no police officers were on-site when the clash happened, which led to fear among visiting devotees and locals in the area. “The fight was between two groups of lassi sellers over customer competition. A woman has also been injured. We’ve received a complaint, and strict action will be taken against those responsible,” said SP Rural Suresh Chand Rawat in a statement to the press.
Social media quickly drew comparisons between this latest scuffle and the Baghpat chaat fight of 2021, which became a viral sensation. In that incident, rival food stall owners had similarly attacked each other with sticks, spawning countless memes and annual online tributes. However, netizens joked that this time, Mathura’s version lacked a “heroic” figure like “Einstein Chacha,” who had captured public imagination during the Baghpat fight.
