Deepinder Goyal Launches Dark AI, a Privacy-Focused Chatbot with End-to-End Encryption

The CSR Journal Magazine

Deepinder Goyal, the founder of Zomato and vice chairman of Eternal, has announced the launch of Dark.ai, a new artificial intelligence chatbot aimed at ensuring user privacy. This innovative service will employ end-to-end encryption, which Goyal claims will prevent even the company from accessing users’ conversations. Dark.ai is anticipated to be available globally by the end of 2026.

Details regarding this upcoming service were shared in Eternal’s Q2 FY27 shareholder letter. Goyal explained that Dark.ai is being developed for individuals who wish to engage in discussions about sensitive personal issues, explore confidential business concepts, or conduct research without the fear of their conversations being intercepted.

The chatbot has reportedly been in use internally by the team at Eternal for several months. However, the company has not yet provided a definitive public launch date.

Distinguishing Features of Dark AI

Dark.ai functions similarly to other AI chatbots, such as ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, allowing users to interact with AI, pose questions, and explore various ideas. The primary distinction, as highlighted by Goyal, lies in its commitment to user privacy.

While existing AI services like ChatGPT and Gemini offer privacy settings that enable users to manage how their conversations are utilised, disabling model training does not guarantee that conversations are never stored or accessed for other purposes. Dark.ai aims to resolve these concerns through its end-to-end encryption approach. Goyal stated that the company would be unable to read users’ conversations, even if compelled to do so.

In the shareholder letter, Goyal expressed that the uncertainty and lack of trust associated with large AI companies hinder the potential of AI in everyday life. He noted that privacy concerns may prevent individuals from asking sensitive questions regarding health, finances, and relationships. Additionally, researchers and founders may be reluctant to share initial ideas if they fear that confidential information could become accessible to others.

Key Features of Dark AI

Dark.ai will operate using fine-tuned versions of advanced open-weight AI models hosted on Eternal’s own infrastructure. Open-weight models enable developers to modify existing AI models instead of creating entirely new ones from scratch. The platform’s main features include end-to-end encryption, which Goyal asserts will ensure that conversations remain inaccessible to the company.

Moreover, Goyal’s letter mentioned an encrypted memory system, allowing users to manage memory retention across sessions without granting the company access to their conversations. Eternal is also adapting advanced open-weight models to provide high-quality responses, with a focus on prioritising accuracy over merely satisfying user expectations. The company intends to release benchmark results in the future.

The target audience for Dark.ai includes founders, researchers, scientists, businesses, and governmental organisations that handle sensitive data. However, the chatbot’s privacy-centric design may also attract ordinary users seeking greater confidentiality in their personal discussions.

Future Launch Plans for Dark AI

Eternal aims to launch Dark.ai on a global scale by the end of 2026. Currently, the service is undergoing internal testing, and further information regarding public availability, pricing, and supported features is yet to be disclosed.

As the development progresses, stakeholders and potential users await additional updates on this innovative platform. The emphasis on privacy and security is expected to resonate with a wide range of users, from professionals to everyday individuals.

Dark.ai represents a significant step in addressing privacy concerns within the AI landscape, potentially reshaping how users interact with technology in sensitive contexts.
