Indian para swimmer Mohammad Shams Aalam Shaikh has been sent back to India after Japanese police detained him following allegations of sexual harassment and molestation involving a female hotel employee. The incident reportedly took place during the Asian Para Games in Nagoya, where the Indian contingent is competing.

The Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) is reportedly considering disciplinary action against the 40-year-old athlete, including a possible lifetime ban. The allegations have not been established as proven wrongdoing, and details of any legal proceedings in Japan remain unclear.

Complaint Reportedly Made At Team Hotel

According to a source within the Indian delegation, the alleged incident occurred at the hotel where the Indian para-swimming team was staying. A female housekeeping employee was reportedly performing her duties in Shaikh’s room when the alleged misconduct took place.

The employee’s complaint prompted Japanese police to intervene, following which the Indian delegation was informed about the matter. Shaikh was sent back to India on Tuesday, a day after the alleged incident.

The PCI is expected to consider the matter further, with a formal decision on possible disciplinary action reportedly likely after the Games conclude.
