KL Rahul’s Unbeaten 152 in Vain as Delhi Capitals Beat Punjab Kings by Six Wickets

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a thrilling encounter during the IPL 2026 season, KL Rahul delivered a stunning unbeaten 152 for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif commended this exceptional innings, referring to it as a “vintage” performance filled with class and aggression. Speaking as a JioStar expert on Star Sports, Kaif noted that Rahul displayed his full batting potential even as his team ultimately faced defeat.

Kaif emphasized the variety and effectiveness of Rahul’s stroke play, pointing out that the batter exhibited dominance across different areas of the ground. He stated, “He drove through the covers, pulled over square leg, and lofted straight down the ground. No bowler was spared, and every delivery was treated with intent.” Despite the spotlight on Rahul’s individual achievement, the match ended in disappointment for the Punjab Kings.

Rahul’s extraordinary effort, which came off just 67 balls, remained unbeaten, yet it failed to secure a victory for his team, which faced a six-wicket loss. The Punjab Kings came back from a challenging 265-run target set by DC, completing the largest run-chase in IPL history. Kaif noted the emotional duality in cricket, highlighting the pain of personal success contrasting with team defeat, stating, “KL Rahul must be shattered. This innings will be remembered, but the defeat will hurt more than the runs.”

This remarkable knock of 152 not only highlights Rahul’s capabilities but also established him as the holder of the highest individual score by an Indian in IPL history, surpassing Abhishek Sharma’s previous record of 141 runs set last season. Additionally, he joined an elite group of batters in IPL history by becoming the third player to cross the 150-run mark, alongside Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum.

Rahul’s century was particularly noteworthy as it was achieved in just 47 balls, breaking the previous record held by Virender Sehwag and Quinton de Kock for the fastest century for Delhi Capitals in the IPL. Furthermore, his impressive total of 152 eclipsed franchise icon Rishabh Pant’s top score of 128 not out, which he made against Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018.

As a result of this innings, Rahul stands at the pinnacle of IPL’s batting royalty, boasting two centuries each for the Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Lucknow Super Giants. After the match, he accumulated a total of 5,579 runs in IPL along with six centuries, overtaking MS Dhoni in the all-time run charts and securing the sixth position overall.
