Actor Celina Jaitly has urged women who own personal assets to consider signing prenuptial agreements before marriage, stressing the importance of protecting independently acquired wealth and maintaining financial security.

The 44-year-old actor made the remarks amid her ongoing divorce proceedings with her husband, Austrian entrepreneur Peter Haag. Jaitly said relationships may begin with love and promises of togetherness, but disputes over finances and property can become central when marriages break down.

Celina Jaitly Advises Women To Keep Assets Separate

Speaking to India Today’s Gaurav Sawant, Jaitly advised women with assets of their own to sign a prenuptial agreement before getting married and maintain separate ownership of their property.

“I would recommend girls, please do a prenup if you have assets of your own. Please do a prenup before marrying. Keep your assets separate always. Because, you know, it all boiled down to assets. All the love, all the care, all the promises of togetherness, the children, the deaths, the births, everything boiled down to an asset at the end of the day. And that is what my biggest heartache is,” she said in an interaction with India Today.

Her remarks come as she continues divorce proceedings with Haag, whom she married in 2010.

Celina Jaitly Recalls Receiving Divorce Notice Before Anniversary

During the same conversation, Jaitly recalled receiving a divorce notice in Austria shortly before her 15th wedding anniversary.

The No Entry actor said the document was read out to her by her twin sons. She initially believed the letter had been sent by the municipality or was related to her residence status.

Jaitly said she even joked with her husband about whether the authorities had sent her money before realising that the document was a divorce notice.

She described the notice as having been served on the pretext of an anniversary gift and said it contained allegations against her while stating that the marriage had suffered an “irretrievable breakdown”.

What Is A Prenuptial Agreement?

A prenuptial agreement, commonly known as a prenup, is a legal contract entered into by a couple before marriage that outlines how assets, debts and property will be handled if the marriage ends.

Such agreements can also specify that assets owned by either partner before marriage will remain separate, providing greater clarity over financial arrangements and property ownership.

Jaitly married Austrian entrepreneur Peter Haag in 2010. The couple welcomed twin sons, Winston and Viraaj, in 2012.

Their son Arthur was born in 2017. The actor has previously spoken publicly about losing another son, Shamsher, to a heart condition.
