Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar responded to Prime Minister Modi’s recent announcement regarding the establishment of fast-track courts for cases related to paper leaks. The Chief Minister expressed satisfaction that the Prime Minister had finally addressed the issue after a delay of nearly one month. During remarks made at a breakfast meeting with corporate leaders, he stated, “At least he has opened up after 15 days, or one month. I think that is very important because we all work for our children’s and youth’s future.”

Karnataka’s Focus on Technological Education

During the meeting, Shivakumar highlighted his administration’s commitment to enhancing technological education for rural children. He urged industry leaders to engage in initiatives aimed at regional development, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). He stated, “We want to take AI to our children… I requested all of them to invest in rural areas or towns.” The Chief Minister is also planning to develop a new curriculum to support this educational goal, which he believes will be beneficial for future generations.

Shivakumar extended an invitation to corporate leaders to participate in the upcoming Bangalore Tech Summit. He noted that the engagement with CEOs is critical in furthering the government’s agenda. “I think all these CEOs came, and they were very open, and they agreed with how the government is trying to take things forward,” he said, asserting that the summit would have a global impact.

He emphasised that maintaining Karnataka’s reputation is a priority. “Our leaders have built it, our talented people have built Bangalore. So we will work together,” he added, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts in bolstering the state’s development.

Future Discussions on Water Sharing and Governance

When asked about inter-state water sharing, Shivakumar indicated that formal discussions would be initiated once his cabinet’s immediate administrative tasks are completed. He refrained from revealing specifics, stating, “I don’t want to disclose it now. I am very busy with this first week, with my cabinet expansion and all.” He assured that his government is prepared to engage in dialogue and collaborative work, especially with Tamil Nadu, although he noted that this would take some time.

Shivakumar’s comments come amid ongoing protests in Mandya, where demonstrators are voicing their concerns over alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). The protest was organised by the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and other progressive groups, who have expressed discontent with the Central government’s handling of educational issues.

During the protest, which took place at Sanjay Circle, activists burned an effigy of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, demanding his resignation. They voiced their anger over various issues, including alleged police violence against students in Delhi, and called for immediate justice regarding the alleged NEET irregularities. The protesters are advocating for the cancellation of NEET and the reinstatement of the Common Entrance Test (CET).

Prominent leaders from the Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, including Krishna, C. Kumari, Karave Jayaram, and Auto Krishna participated in the demonstration. They highlighted the increasing frustrations among students and the lack of timely government responses as contributing factors to the rising tensions and protests.
