India Condemns Violence in PoK, Calls for Pakistan to Be Held Accountable

The CSR Journal Magazine

India on Tuesday strongly condemned the violence reported in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), where clashes between protesters and security forces have left several people dead and many others injured. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the situation as a serious human rights concern and urged the international community to hold Pakistan accountable for its actions.

The reaction came after reports emerged of deadly confrontations in parts of PoK, particularly in Rawalakot and surrounding areas, amid protests linked to political and governance-related grievances. According to available reports, at least 11 people were killed in the violence, while dozens sustained injuries. Conflicting accounts regarding the exact casualty figures continue to emerge.

MEA Alleges Human Rights Violations

Responding to the developments, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India had taken note of reports of severe police brutality against civilians in PoK. He alleged that Pakistan was attempting to divert attention from internal issues and human rights concerns in the region.

The Indian government stated that the reported use of force against protesters raises serious questions about the treatment of civilians and democratic freedoms in the territory. New Delhi also expressed hope that international bodies and governments would closely monitor the situation and demand accountability.

Protests Trigger Wider Unrest

The unrest reportedly began ahead of demonstrations organised by groups protesting political and constitutional issues in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Tensions escalated when security forces moved to disperse crowds, leading to violent clashes.

Authorities in the region have increased security deployments, while reports suggest internet services and communications were disrupted in certain areas as officials sought to contain the unrest. The developments have drawn attention from regional observers and international media outlets.

India Plans to Raise Issue Internationally

Indian officials indicated that the government will continue highlighting concerns about human rights and governance issues in PoK through diplomatic channels and international forums. New Delhi maintains that the welfare and rights of people living in the region should remain a matter of global concern.

As the situation evolves, calls for an impartial assessment of the violence and accountability for civilian deaths are likely to remain at the centre of diplomatic discussions. The incident has once again brought renewed attention to conditions in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and the broader challenges facing the region.
