IIT Madras Showcases Innovations at Bharat Innovates 2026 in France

The CSR Journal Magazine

IIT Madras will present its advancements in Hyperloop technology, 6G communications, and artificial intelligence at Bharat Innovates 2026, an international technology exhibition scheduled to be held in Nice, France, from June 14 to 16, 2026. This significant event is organised by the Ministry of Education to highlight and promote emerging technology initiatives from higher education institutions and technical centres across India. It aims to connect investors, policymakers, industry leaders, research organisations, and technology partners on a global scale.

The initiative is targeted towards creating a platform for collaboration between various stakeholders in the technology and education sectors. As part of this, IIT Madras will lead in two out of the thirteen thematic areas of the event. The institute plans to showcase a total of fifteen startups that have been incubated at the facility.

The pavilion of IIT Madras is expected to feature five major research projects focused on cutting-edge technologies such as Hyperloop systems, lab-grown diamond marking technologies, 5G and 6G communication methods, port automation, and a localised artificial intelligence ecosystem.

Technological Highlights and Startups

A prominent part of IIT Madras’s presentation will be its work in the field of Hyperloop technology. Recently designated as the Centre of Excellence for Hyperloop Technology by the Ministry of Railways, the institute’s startup, TuTr Hyperloop, has made strides in developing essential technologies, including electromagnetic levitation and vacuum tube operations.

Within the thematic area of Next-Generation Communications, the institute will focus on advancements related to 5G and upcoming 6G technologies. These developments are anticipated to support ultra-low latency networks and enable intelligent automation along with distributed artificial intelligence applications. Startups like REIO Systems and Astrome Technologies will also present their innovations, including software-defined radio platforms and wireless backhaul systems.

In the Blue Economy segment, IIT Madras will showcase technologies developed to tackle maritime challenges. Planys Technologies is among the highlighted startups, using remotely operated vehicles and AI solutions to conduct inspections of underwater infrastructure. Another startup, Zerocircle, has made strides in creating seaweed-based materials as a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics.

Research and Collaborations

IIT Madras will also display research efforts from the Indian Centre for Lab Grown Diamonds (InCent-LGD). Researchers at the centre have invented laser-based technologies that allow for the embedding of invisible QR codes within diamonds. This innovation aims to assist in authentication and traceability in the diamond sector without compromising the quality or clarity of the stones.

Additionally, the pavilion will highlight smart port automation systems developed collaboratively with the National Technology Centre for Ports, Waterways and Coasts (NTCPWC). IITM Pravartak Technologies Foundation will present small language models, which have been designed for energy-efficient artificial intelligence applications.

By participating in Bharat Innovates 2026, IIT Madras intends to showcase India’s growing technological capabilities in various sectors including telecommunications, maritime infrastructure, transportation systems, and artificial intelligence to an international audience.
