A tragic incident struck on Saturday afternoon when a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists capsized in the waters off Vietnam, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 individuals. The group was on an island-hopping tour, enjoying the scenic beauty, when the vessel overturned approximately 400 metres from Hon May Rut Ngoai. The tourists were being transported from Hon May Rut Islet to An Thoi Port, situated on Phu Quoc Island.

The speedboat reportedly encountered rough seas, which contributed to the unfortunate disaster. As news of the incident spread, local authorities quickly initiated rescue operations to aid those trapped inside the overturned boat.

Witnesses reported that high waves presented significant challenges to the rescue teams initially. Many tourists remained trapped within the vessel, raising concerns about their survival. Eyewitness accounts described the harrowing conditions faced by rescuers who were attempting to assist the stranded individuals.

Challenges in Rescue Operations

The difficult sea conditions, coupled with the initial absence of rain, initially hampered the possibility of rescue. However, nearby boats were able to begin their rescue efforts shortly after the capsizing occurred. Local authorities were quick to respond as the situation unfolded. The Border Guards joined the rescue operation, deploying two boats along with a team of 35 officers and soldiers to assist.
