A woman from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, has reportedly succeeded in obtaining a one-sided divorce from her husband by allegedly identifying his biological sister as a “second wife.” The case, which has drawn attention for its unusual circumstances, involves a couple who have been experiencing marital discord since their separation in 2015. The woman, who is 40 years old, has been married since 1998 but faced persistent disputes that led to their living apart.

The husband, who works for a marketing company, frequently travelled for work. This absence is believed to have intensified the conflicts between the couple. While the woman sought a divorce, her husband had consistently refused to dissolve the marriage. Due to this continued discord, the wife decided to approach the family court in 2021, requesting the termination of their marital ties.

Allegations of Misrepresentation in Court

In her application to the court, the woman claimed that her husband had remarried. To substantiate her claim, she submitted a family photograph depicting her husband alongside his sister and other family members. In a reported act of deception, she identified her sister-in-law as her husband’s second spouse, thereby attempting to mislead the court regarding his marital status.

Relying on the evidence provided by the woman, the family court granted an ex-parte divorce decree. This upheld her claims without the husband’s presence or input during the proceedings. The court’s decision was reportedly based on the information and evidence presented at the hearing, which the husband later contended was fraudulent.

The husband became aware of the divorce order in early April 2026, prompting him to review the court documents related to the case. Upon examination, he discovered the misrepresentation concerning the identity of his sister and the false claims made by his wife. Consequently, he has challenged the divorce decree in the Gwalior High Court, presenting his argument that the ruling was secured through misleading information.
