Gurugram Woman Reports Domestic Violence and Gender Bias

The CSR Journal Magazine

A case involving allegations of domestic violence and discrimination based on gender has emerged from Gurugram. A woman named Mansi claims she was physically assaulted and subsequently expelled from her in-laws’ residence for failing to produce a male child. Following the incident, Mansi and her two young daughters sought refuge at a local police station, where they requested immediate protection.

The events unraveled late on Tuesday night when Mansi approached the police, highlighting ongoing abuse she allegedly faced from her husband as well. After her arrival, police officials conducted a medical examination for her and her daughters, ensuring their safety by later escorting them back to their temporary residence in Khandsa.

Background of the Family Dynamics

Mansi, originally from Paharganj in Delhi, married Mohit Gupta, a resident of Khandsa, on February 3, 2020. They are parents to two daughters aged five and three. Mansi asserts that her in-laws began to treat her poorly following the birth of her daughters, with her being frequently mocked for not having a son. This alleged discrimination reportedly escalated into mental and physical harassment.

After being forced to leave her in-laws’ home, Mansi moved in with her husband. However, the domestic situation reportedly did not improve, as she alleges that Mohit began to physically assault her, particularly when intoxicated. She claims that his violence was often unprovoked, escalating her feelings of distress.

On the night of the incident, Mansi’s decision to leave was precipitated by the alleged physical assault from her husband. Feeling unsafe, she took her daughters and reached out to the authorities for help.

Further Allegations Against the In-Laws

Mansi has also made serious accusations against her in-laws, alleging that they frequently incited her husband to act against her. According to her complaint, they insisted that Mohit terminate their marriage due to the fact that only daughters had been born. She suggested that her in-laws were even considering arranging a second marriage for her husband.

Additionally, Mansi claims that her in-laws are attempting to delay any legal proceedings that she might initiate. They allegedly believe that allowing seven years to pass since her marriage would protect them from potential allegations of dowry harassment, should Mansi pursue legal action against them.

Mansi also reported her experience at the police station on Tuesday night, indicating that her initial pleas for help were not acted upon swiftly. She stated that police involvement only occurred after she escalated the matter by contacting senior officials. Following this, she was taken for a medical examination around midnight, and police later ensured her safe return to her rented accommodation.

Law Enforcement Response and Next Steps

The local police have stated that they are treating the allegations with seriousness. An investigation has been initiated to verify Mansi’s claims. Authorities will be questioning both her husband and her in-laws regarding the accusations of domestic violence, physical assault, and criminal intimidation.

According to police officials, further legal actions will be determined based on the outcomes of the ongoing investigation. The safety and well-being of Mansi and her children are a priority for law enforcement in this case.
