Gurugram Police Shoot Gangsters During Encounter, Arms Seized

The CSR Journal Magazine

A police operation on the outskirts of Gurugram resulted in a gunfight after two men, allegedly associated with a series of extortion-related shootings in Delhi, were shot in the leg and taken into custody. The incident occurred early on May 30, 2026, as the suspects were reportedly attempting to execute a murder plot. Police claimed the accused returned fire when they were cornered near Manesar.

The individuals were named Karan alias Romi, aged 24, and Pravesh, aged 21, both residents of Delhi. Authorities have linked them to multiple criminal activities, including extortion and robbery, with around two dozen cases registered against them spanning both Delhi and Haryana.

Chase and Exchange of Fire

According to reports from Gurugram Police, information was received late on May 29, suggesting that the suspects, who were allegedly involved in prior firing incidents, were travelling from Bilaspur towards Gurugram on a motorcycle armed with foreign-made firearms. In response to this information, the Crime Branch teams initiated a joint operation, establishing surveillance at Pachgaon Chowk.

Following hours of monitoring, the police spotted the motorcycle between 2 am and 2.30 am on May 30. Upon noticing police presence, the suspects allegedly attempted to flee by changing their route towards a service road. The chase continued into the Manesar Valley area, where the accused eventually realised they were surrounded.

As the officers closed in on them, the motorcycle skidded, and the suspects reportedly began firing at the police. Several bullets struck a police vehicle during this exchange. Despite being warned to surrender, the suspects allegedly persisted in firing, prompting police to return fire after issuing warning shots. The encounter concluded when both men sustained injuries to their legs and were subdued.

Weapons and Further Investigations

The police recovered the motorcycle used by the suspects along with a significant cache of illegal weapons. The seized items included a foreign-made pistol and revolver, along with two magazines and spent cartridge cases. Authorities are now investigating the origins of these weapons, particularly to determine if they were intended for future criminal activities.

Both suspects are sought in connection with several firing incidents and robberies across Delhi, particularly in areas such as Kanjhawala and Mundka. Investigators allege that the duo had been involved in a broader extortion campaign, instilling fear among local traders and residents. For a considerable time, Delhi Police had been actively searching for them.

Preliminary investigations also suggested that the men may have been plotting a murder at the time of their apprehension. The specific target and motive have yet to be determined, but police believe that further investigations will reveal more about the alleged conspiracy and its connections to a wider criminal network.

A review of their criminal records shows both men face around two dozen charges, including extortion, robbery, attempted murder, and violations of the Arms Act. Authorities anticipate that additional information will surface once the suspects are discharged from hospital and formally arrested in connection with the recent incident.

During their custody, police plan to engage in detailed interrogations to unravel their roles in prior criminal activities, identify any accomplices, and ascertain whether plans for more attacks were underway.
