Government Conducts Over 1.28 Lakh Raids, Seizes More Than 59,000 LPG Cylinders Since March 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Government of India has reported that over 1.28 lakh raids have been conducted across the country since March 2026, as part of efforts to combat the hoarding and black marketing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). During these operations, authorities seized more than 59,000 cylinders, registered over 1,000 First Information Reports (FIRs), and arrested 238 individuals. The enforcement initiatives are aimed at ensuring the stability and availability of fuel amidst rising concerns of supply chain disruptions.

At a recent briefing held at the National Media Centre, officials from various ministries, including those responsible for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Ports, Shipping, Waterways, and External Affairs, discussed vital updates on fuel availability and ongoing operations. The Ministry of Heavy Industries also provided information on the current state of the heavy industries sector, outlining coordinated measures being taken to support electric mobility and critical mineral manufacturing.

In light of geopolitical tensions that have affected global energy markets, the authorities reiterated their commitment to managing fuel resources and maintaining supply stability. Regular press briefings, public advisories, and a strong focus on countering misinformation have become key components of their strategy.

Policy Initiatives and Support for Electric Mobility

The Ministry of Heavy Industries is driving electric mobility growth amid the fluctuating global energy landscape. To support domestic electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and adoption, the government has approved an extension of the Rs 10,900 crore PM E-DRIVE Scheme, aiming to sustain momentum in EV production. The scheme is designed to provide policy certainty and ongoing incentives for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

As part of this initiative, the e-2W segment, which involves electric two-wheelers, has been extended to 31 July 2026, while the e-3W segment, including e-rickshaws and e-carts, has been extended until 31 March 2028. Additionally, the government is working to operationalise the Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets, which is crucial for enhancing localised manufacturing in the EV and defence sectors.

These measures not only aim to strengthen India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities but also seek to contribute towards broader goals of reducing reliance on imported components. The government has conducted various engagements with industry stakeholders to strengthen the resilience of supply chains and support the electric mobility vision.

Strategic Measures for Ensuring Fuel Supply Stability

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has outlined critical steps taken to maintain stable fuel supply amidst the ongoing geopolitical challenges, notably in the Strait of Hormuz. Authorities have urged citizens to refrain from panic buying of fuels, such as petrol, diesel, and LPG, recommending reliance on official sources for information.

Supply measures have included prioritising domestic requirements and ensuring that critical sectors, such as healthcare and education, receive timely fuel allocations. States have been empowered to monitor the distribution and act against hoarding and black marketing, supported by the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act and the LPG Control Order.

With the government actively communicating about adequate fuel availability, citizens have been encouraged to conserve energy and utilise digital platforms for LPG bookings. The allocation of 5 kg cylinders for vulnerable sectors like migrant labour has been increased significantly, showcasing the government’s focus on social welfare during this challenging period.
