The Ganga river has reached a significant warning threshold at the Bhimgoda Barrage in Haridwar due to sustained heavy rainfall in the region. As of July 28, the water level was recorded at 292.70 metres, which is perilously close to the alert level of 293 metres. Ongoing rains in the mountains have led to increased water discharge, which is currently measured at 140,948 cusecs. Harish Prasad, a Junior Engineer from the Irrigation Department, provided these details, emphasising the urgent need for monitoring the situation.

Prasad indicated that the water levels are likely to continue rising given the forecasted rainfall. The warning and danger thresholds are set at 293 metres and 294 metres, respectively. Continuous rainfall increases the probability of the water reaching or surpassing these levels, demanding immediate attention and precautionary measures from local authorities.

In response to the rising water levels, flood monitoring posts have been activated to provide real-time information to both administration and senior officials. This proactive approach aims to ensure that the local government is adequately informed to manage the situation effectively. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conducted a high-level meeting to assess the ongoing weather situation in light of the India Meteorological Department’s recent orange alert across various districts. The heavy rainfall has been evident since the night of July 24, and preparations are underway to address any potential crises that may emerge as a result.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Dhami sought an in-depth analysis of rainfall patterns throughout the state, the current status in affected districts, blockages on roads, water levels in rivers, and the conditions leading to waterlogging. The Chief Minister also inquired about the status of relief and rescue operations, ensuring that local administrations are equipped to respond effectively to emergencies.
