Search and rescue efforts at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur are currently ongoing following the capsizing of a cruise boat on Thursday. The incident has reportedly claimed the lives of four individuals, while fifteen others have been rescued, as indicated by local officials. The Jabalpur district office is coordinating the efforts of both the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which are actively involved in the operation.

According to Jabalpur Collector Raghvendra Singh, the cruise service is primarily intended for recreational purposes on the dam. He confirmed that the ill-fated cruise was carrying a total of twenty-nine people at the time of the disaster. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations to ascertain the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

Reportedly, the cruise capsized in the middle of the dam, leading several individuals to jump into the water while wearing life jackets.

Another eyewitness, Tuhin, corroborated the chaotic atmosphere at the scene. His account detailed how he and others had been enjoying a meal when they noticed the boat shaking due to strong winds. Tuhin recounted how they urged the operator to anchor the boat, but despite their requests, it ventured further into the water before capsizing. His efforts reportedly aided in the rescue of several individuals from the water.

The swift response from nearby onlookers, as well as the rescue teams, played a crucial role in the rescue of those who managed to survive the incident. Local residents have expressed their sorrow over the events, with many still processing the shock of the situation that unfolded so quickly.

Investigation Launched Into Incident

In light of the tragic circumstances, the government has announced an investigation to determine the precise causes behind the cruise capsizing. Madhya Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Rajendra Shukla, referred to the event as a “heart-rending and unfortunate incident.” He assured the public that both the SDRF and local police are present at the scene, gathering information and coordinating the investigation.
