Five Family Members Die in Collision on Barsatpur Ahirani Highway

A tragic road accident occurred on the Barsatpur Ahirani Highway in Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in the deaths of five family members. The collision took place around 3:00 AM on Saturday, April 25, when a Scorpio SUV collided head-on with a trailer truck. The incident is reportedly under investigation by local authorities.

The Dohrighat Police reported that the Scorpio vehicle, identified with the registration number JH 21G3927, lost control and veered into the opposite lane, leading to the violent collision with the oncoming truck, which had the registration number BR 28GB2171. The force of the impact was severe, resulting in immediate fatalities for all occupants inside the Scorpio.

Tragically, a pet dog accompanying the family also perished in the crash. Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as chaotic, with numerous locals gathering at the accident site in response to the incident.

Victims Identified and Background

Authorities have identified the deceased victims as follows: Vinay Srivastava, aged 53; his son, Kritarth Srivastava, aged 27; and his wife, Archana Srivastava, aged 48. All three were residents of Village Ranidiha in Gorakhpur district. Two additional victims, identified as Ravindra Yadav, aged 20, and Purushottam Kumar, aged 28, were from Matihani in Bihar, where they also had familial ties.

Reports indicate that the family was returning home after attending their daughter’s wedding in Ranchi, Jharkhand. This has compounded the tragedy, as the event was likely to have been a joyous occasion before the accident transformed it into a devastating loss.

The Circle Officer of Ghosi, Jitendra Singh, confirmed the fatalities and noted that the situation has left the community in mourning. He expressed his condolences during brief statements to the media, highlighting the impact of the tragedy on the victims’ families.

Response and Aftermath

Following the incident, the Dohrighat Police urgently arrived at the scene to manage the situation. They began relief and rescue operations immediately, prioritising the recovery of the victims and the management of the site. Legal formalities were completed before the bodies were transferred to the mortuary at the District Hospital in Mau for post-mortem examinations.

Local residents have expressed their sorrow over the incident, with many gathering to offer condolences to the bereaved families. Reports are emerging that community organisations may come together to support the families affected by this tragic event.

The collision underscores ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the area, particularly given the high volume of traffic on major highways. Officials are expected to review safety measures and possibly increase patrols to prevent such incidents in the future.
