FIR Alleges Dowry Harassment in Twisha Sharma Death Case

The CSR Journal Magazine

The FIR in the death case of Twisha Sharma outlines serious accusations involving dowry harassment, financial coercion, and both mental and physical abuse. It specifically mentions a demand of Rs 2 lakh made by her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, during the wedding held in December 2025. This amount reportedly placed significant strain on Twisha’s family finances, yet they complied with the demand.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation’s FIR, shortly after the marriage, Twisha’s husband, Samarth Singh, along with Giribala Singh, allegedly began to mock her over the dowry issue. They reportedly claimed that the expenses for the wedding did not meet their expectations, which led to further emotional distress for Twisha.

The FIR also highlights that, instead of providing financial support for household expenses, Twisha was allegedly coerced into soliciting funds from her family through electronic transfers, further exacerbating her psychological burden.

Pressure for Abortion and Related Allegations

Additional allegations in the FIR suggest that in April, while Twisha was approximately one month pregnant, there was pressure from Samarth and Giribala Singh to terminate the pregnancy. The FIR claims they made unfounded remarks, suggesting that the unborn child was “someone else’s,” which contradicts prior statements made by Giribala Singh. She had publicly claimed that Twisha wished to terminate the pregnancy and had done so without informing Samarth.

Giribala Singh had previously alleged that Twisha was dependent on narcotic substances, attributing her emotional turmoil to this dependency. The first week of May reportedly saw Twisha subjected to intense mental harassment and character defamation, which led her to undergo the abortion, as documented in the FIR.

The allegations against the Singh family paint a troubling picture of coercion related to Twisha’s pregnancy, compounded by a history of mental abuse that they are accused of inflicting since the marriage.

Details Surrounding Twisha’s Final Days

The FIR contains specific details regarding Twisha’s last day, May 12, when she was found hanging from a ceiling fan. It states that she had multiple phone conversations with family members, including a WhatsApp call at 9.41 pm, during which she allegedly heard her husband’s raised voice. This call was reportedly cut off suddenly, followed by her phone being switched off.

Attempts by her family to reach her after the call went unanswered. Notably, at approximately 10.35 pm, Giribala Singh answered a call from Twisha’s family but reportedly did not allow Twisha to speak before disconnecting, raising further concerns about her safety during that time.

The FIR asserts that Twisha had been suffering from ongoing physical and psychological abuse, corroborated with evidence such as WhatsApp messages, post-mortem reports, inquest findings, witness accounts, as well as documentation relating to the wedding and financial transactions.

Ongoing Investigation and Family Allegations

Twisha’s family has reiterated their accusations against Samarth Singh and Giribala Singh, claiming they were subjecting Twisha to prolonged psychological and physical abuse. Furthermore, they allege that attempts have been made to influence the investigation into the circumstances surrounding her untimely death, raising questions about the integrity of the inquiry.

The case continues to garner attention, with various facets of the investigation expected to unfold as authorities delve deeper into the allegations raised in the FIR. The implications of these allegations have sparked broader discussions surrounding dowry practices and women’s rights within marriage.
