Pawan Khera, a prominent leader of the Congress party, has voiced strong criticism of the Central Government regarding its approach to recent protests by students across the nation concerning exam paper leaks. Speaking to the media in New Delhi on Monday, Khera lamented the government’s reluctance to engage in discussions about the reported police action against young demonstrators.

During the press conference, Khera highlighted alarming incidents of police violence, including a reported case of an AK-47 being used in Siwan, Bihar, against student protesters. He asserted that the Opposition is formally requesting that Home Minister Amit Shah address these concerns in the Rajya Sabha. Khera expressed frustration over the ongoing deadlock in Parliament, which he attributed to the administration’s refusal to listen to the grievances raised by students.

Khera noted, “We attempted to raise our voices in the Rajya Sabha regarding the brutal tactics employed against youth across the country, which persist today. These occurrences, including the use of AK-47s in Bihar, are unacceptable.” He reiterated the Opposition’s demand for a direct response from the Home Minister, stressing the urgency of addressing student concerns.

Concerns Over Police Brutality Across Various States

The Congress leader outlined the Opposition’s position, emphasising the crucial need for the Home Minister to come to Parliament and provide answers on the police’s actions against young demonstrators. Khera claimed that the government has failed to adequately address these issues, which, he argues, has resulted in obstructed parliamentary proceedings.

“Our demand is unequivocal: the Home Minister must address the House and convey his response,” Khera stated. He accused the government of ignoring the voices of students, leading to a continued inability for Parliament to function effectively. Reports of police brutality, he noted, have surfaced from states including West Bengal and Bihar, underscoring a troubling national trend of law enforcement aggression against young citizens.

<h4″Khera insisted that the attacks on students, which commenced on July 20, have reached alarming levels. He stated that numerous reports from various states indicate a pervasive pattern of extreme police action against youth. “The youth of the country are entitled to answers; the Home Minister must be held responsible,” he emphasised.

Accountability Demands from Congress Party

Referring to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s recent social media posts, Khera reiterated the serious nature of the situation, saying, “Rahul ji also expressed concerns about the unprecedented use of AK-47s in Bihar this morning.” He highlighted the need for accountability from the government, urging that a formal statement and apology from the Home Minister are necessary.

Khera called on the administration to take responsibility for its actions and to find a constructive solution to the crisis. He stated, “The path forward is clear: the Home Minister should address Parliament, issue an apology, and clarify the accountability regarding the use of pellet guns in these incidents.” He noted that multiple pressing issues are on the parliamentary agenda but underscored that police actions and the safety of youth should take precedence at this time.

The ongoing situation reflects broader concerns regarding government responsiveness and police conduct during civil demonstrations. As protests continue, the demand for government engagement remains strong among Opposition leaders, particularly in light of the serious allegations of excessive force used against students. The Congress party stands firmly in calling for accountability and action from the Central Government.
