Drishyam 3 Cleared by CBFC With U/A 16+ Certificate Across Multiple Languages Without Cuts

The CSR Journal Magazine

Drishyam 3, the anticipated Malayalam film, is set to release on May 21, with great excitement surrounding its debut. The film not only comes in its original Malayalam version but also includes dubbed editions in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. The censoring process was completed successfully, leading to a detailed overview of the outcomes from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

The CBFC, operating from its Thiruvananthapuram office, granted a U/A 16+ certificate to all versions of Drishyam 3. Notably, the Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada versions received approval without any visual or audio cuts. However, certain modifications were mandated, such as the addition of static warning cards regarding the perils of smoking in the Malayalam version and alcohol consumption in the Kannada version. In the Telugu edition, the CBFC required the removal of the expletive ‘f**k’ from a scene in the latter part of the film.

The original Malayalam version was officially passed on May 11, while the dubbed versions received clearance on May 15. The total runtime of the film, as specified in the censor certificates, is 159.05 minutes, translating to approximately 2 hours, 39 minutes, and 5 seconds.

Cast and Crew Information

Drishyam 3 features a cast that includes well-known actors such as Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, and Asha Sharath. The film is both written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor. This latest installment follows the successful history of the franchise; the first film, Drishyam, debuted in 2013 and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film to date. The second installment, Drishyam 2, was released directly on Amazon Prime Video in 2021, due to restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

In anticipation of its release, advance ticket bookings commenced in Kerala last week, with reports indicating significant demand for tickets. Analysts are forecasting a strong opening performance for the film, reflecting the franchise’s established popularity and the excitement generated among its fan base.

Additionally, Panorama Studios, led by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, will manage the film’s release outside of Kerala and internationally. This studio has also produced Hindi remakes of the franchise, featuring Ajay Devgn in leading roles. The Hindi version of Drishyam 3 is scheduled to premiere later this year, specifically on October 2.

Market Anticipation and Investment

The release of Drishyam 3 comes with considerable investment backing, as PEN Studios has reportedly invested Rs 100 crores in the project. This investment is indicative of confidence in the film’s potential success, given the franchise’s previous performances and the positive reception of its preceding installments.

The excitement surrounding Drishyam 3 is not just local; it has spurred interest internationally, with many viewers eagerly awaiting its availability. The franchise has cultivated a dedicated fan base over the years, contributing to high expectations for this film’s release and subsequent box office performance.

As the release date approaches, the buzz continues to grow, making Drishyam 3 one of the most highlighted films of the season. With its rich storyline and robust characters, it promises to maintain the legacy of its predecessors in the cinematic landscape.
