The Delhi Police has successfully dismantled an interstate cocaine smuggling operation that utilised train routes. This operation took place on July 31, at the bustling Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, where officers arrested two Nigerian women found with narcotics valued at approximately Rs 20 crore. Authorities reported that this significant achievement came during a routine patrol on Platform No. 1.

The Railway Unit, in collaboration with local police at the railway station, initiated the check which led to the apprehension of the suspects. The officers had their suspicions raised during a standard luggage examination, prompting a thorough search that resulted in the discovery of eleven packets containing cocaine.

Subsequent analysis by a Forensic Science Laboratory later verified the substance as cocaine. The total weight of the confiscated drugs was 2.288 kg, classifying it as a commercial quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Details of the Arrested Individuals

The two women have been identified as Chikanso James and Happiness Okoye, both of Nigerian nationality. Their passports have been confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation. According to police officials, they are exploring the connections and implications of this case, focusing on how the individuals were involved in drug trafficking.

During the interrogation process, both suspects reportedly indicated that the cocaine had been obtained from the Vikaspuri area of Delhi. This has led investigators to pursue potential leads regarding the distribution and source of the drugs, aiming to uncover the broader network that facilitated this operation.

An FIR has been lodged at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, specifically Sections 21(3) and 29. This legal framework addresses issues surrounding drug trafficking and possession.

Ongoing Investigations into Wider Drug Trafficking Network

The Delhi Police have indicated that this bust is part of an ongoing effort to combat drug smuggling along the Delhi-Mumbai route, which is believed to have links to an international drug trafficking network. Investigators are utilising this opportunity to explore inmates’ ties to larger organisations involved in similar activities.

The authorities are conducting further investigations to trace the main supplier and other individuals potentially affiliated with this drug syndicate. Following the arrest, the police are collecting intelligence about the smuggling routes and chains connected to the trafficking of cocaine.
