Delhi Police Conduct Operation Prahaar, Arrest 44 Individuals in 34 Cases

In a significant initiative against street crime and organised criminal activities, the North-West District Police in Delhi carried out ‘Operation Prahaar’ and apprehended 44 individuals linked to 34 different cases within a span of 72 hours. This operation has seen the police tackle various crimes that include burglary, robbery, snatching, auto-lifting, gambling, and cyber fraud across multiple police stations in the region.

According to a statement from the Delhi Police, the move was aimed at reducing street crime in the area, with authorities coordinating efforts to enhance public safety. The operation led to the arrest of three Proclaimed Offenders (POs) and the safe recovery of five missing individuals, demonstrating the effectiveness of the crackdown.

Major Arrests and Key Recoveries

One of the operation’s notable successes occurred in Ashok Vihar, where a burglar identified as Chandan, also known as Rahul, was arrested. This individual had been implicated in 31 criminal cases. The police reported a complete recovery of stolen gold and silver jewellery from his possession, marking a significant achievement in this particular case.

Additionally, the Subhash Place police acted swiftly, arresting three robbers within eight hours following their offence. They seized a country-made pistol, live ammunition, robbed cash, and a stolen scooter as part of this operation. Furthermore, separate incidents in Mukherjee Nagar and Adarsh Nagar resulted in the apprehension of two active snatchers, with one suspect, Rashid, having been previously involved in 10 snatching incidents across various districts, alongside a history of 41 crimes.

Efforts from the Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) led to the dismantling of a network involved in interstate auto lifting. Two individuals were detained during this operation, including a habitual offender named Puru Chhaparia, who had fifteen previous charges related to armed robbery. A stolen vehicle with counterfeit plates was also recovered during the engagement, which resulted in minor injuries to a police officer during a confrontation.

Cybercrime Arrests and Drug Trade Operations

In the realm of cybercrime, the North-West Cyber Cell made a significant arrest in Kolkata. Roshan Sharma was taken into custody after a 1,600 km chase across four states; he allegedly exploited online matrimonial sites to defraud women. Police recovered devices containing private videos of several victims during the operation. Another arrest involved a domestic helper, Shiv Narayan, who unlawfully created a UPI ID using his elderly employer’s banking information, leading to fraudulent withdrawals totalling Rs 4.01 lakhs.

The crackdown also targeted illegal liquor trade, resulting in the arrest of sixteen individuals linked to smuggling operations. A total of 784 quarter bottles of illicit liquor were seized as part of this initiative. Additionally, raids at the TPC Centre in Azadpur and Pitampura led to the apprehension of ten individuals for illegal gambling activities, during which over Rs 21,000 in cash and gambling materials were confiscated.

The operation placed emphasis on community welfare as well, with police successfully locating four missing minors and one individual with an intellectual disability. These persons were reported missing from Jahangir Puri, Adarsh Nagar, and Mukherjee Nagar and were safely reunited with their families.

Overall, the three-day operation has yielded substantial recoveries, including various firearms, hundreds of stolen items, and numerous bottles of illicit liquor, underscoring the commitment of the Delhi Police to curtail criminal activities in the region.
