The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has formally issued a warning to the Central Government, alleging a breach of the agreement that concluded its lengthy 37-day protest against NEET, the national entrance exam for medical colleges. The ultimatum was articulated via a public post on X, mentioning BJP president JP Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh, with spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka raising concerns about recent student detentions across states such as Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.

According to Ranka, the CJP is observing numerous violations of the agreement, which reportedly included guarantees against police action on protestors. He specifically cited the detainment of hundreds of students, as well as surveillance tactics allegedly being employed by law enforcement in multiple states. He expressed deep concern regarding reports of volunteers aiding the protestors facing intimidation as well.

In light of these circumstances, the CJP has demanded the immediate withdrawal of cases against protestors, the release of detained individuals, and a copy of the written agreement that outlines the legal protections promised by the government. Ranka’s statement underscored the party’s intention to resume protests should these demands not be met by the specified deadline.

Background of the Initial Agreement

This escalation in tensions follows the CJP’s decision to call off its protest on July 25. This cessation was reportedly premised on a promise made by the government to drop all related cases, avert any police intimidation, and establish legislation to prevent cheating and leaks in examinations. The events that unfolded in subsequent days have raised questions about the government’s commitment to uphold its agreements.

Amidst these developments, Members of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party and Congress have been vocal in Parliament, addressing issues of police violence and controversial actions taken against students during protest crackdowns in Bihar. They have solicited responses from Union Home Minister Amit Shah concerning these incidents, thereby highlighting the ongoing unrest stemming from this situation.

Saurav Das, the chief spokesperson for the CJP, also expressed alarm regarding arrests of students in states like Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar, urging the Central Government to ensure the release of detained individuals and the retraction of FIRs filed against them. He characterised the breach of trust as unacceptable to the youth, reiterating that the agreement had been a pivotal factor in pausing the protests.

Commitment to Legal Support and Assurance from Government

In coordination with legal experts, Das assured the detained individuals of the CJP’s commitment to provide necessary legal assistance. Starting from the very first day of the unrest, their legal team has been active in securing the release of those arrested. The statement aims to offer some reassurance to both supporters and participants in the protests.

Das also called for immediate action from the Central Government, specifically addressing Nadda and Singh, to honour the promise of non-retaliation against protestors nationwide. He stressed that all FIRs lodged against protestors should be promptly dismissed, emphasising the expectation for the government to adhere to its commitments.

The spokesperson reminded officials of their pledge to furnish a written guarantee regarding these assurances by July 28, 2026, which further adds to the urgency of the CJP’s demands. He explained that the initial decision to suspend the nationwide protest was taken sincerely, based on the government’s assurances, indicating that any deviation from this course would represent not only a betrayal of the CJP but of public trust among the youth of the nation.
