Fifty Hostel Girls Raise Concerns About Living Conditions in Rajasthan

The CSR Journal Magazine

Approximately fifty students from the Tribal Girls’ Hostel in Sirohi, Rajasthan, approached the District Collectorate to voice their grievances regarding the food quality, hygiene, and overall living conditions. The girls alleged that they had been enduring unsatisfactory conditions for an extended period and were particularly concerned about the standard of food provided in the hostel.

Among the most serious complaints was the assertion that worms had been discovered in their meals. This revelation has heightened concerns regarding the safety and hygiene of the food served. The students emphasized that such issues cannot be overlooked, as they directly impact their health and well-being.

In addition to the food quality, students voiced their dissatisfaction with the cleanliness of the hostel and various essential amenities. They reported that the living arrangements were compromised and inadequate, leading to an uncomfortable and unhygienic living environment.

District Collector Initiates Investigation

Upon hearing the students’ grievances, District Collector Rohitashva Singh Tomar took the matter seriously and engaged with the girls for about an hour. His attentive approach aimed to fully understand the scope of their issues. Following the discussions, he summoned key officials from the administration, including the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Tehsildar, and an Additional District Programme Coordinator from the Education Department.

The Collector ordered a thorough investigation into the allegations raised by the students. He also instructed the immediate formation of an inquiry committee, which is set to review the complaints and ascertain the actual circumstances related to the hostel’s conditions.

This initiative by the District Collector is seen as a vital step toward addressing the long-standing concerns voiced by the students, reflecting an urgent need for improvement in the living environment of the hostel.

Students Returned to Their Residence

Following the engagement with the District Collector, arrangements were made to ensure that the students returned safely to their hostel. About four government vehicles were dispatched to transport the girls back, providing them with a secure means of travel after their visit to the Collectorate.

The prompt action taken to return the students highlights the authorities’ recognition of the importance of their safety and well-being. The situation serves as a reminder of the need for consistent oversight of educational facilities, particularly for vulnerable populations like those residing in hostels.

As investigations are set to proceed, the outcome may lead to necessary reforms aimed at improving the conditions within the hostel, ensuring that students have access to safe and satisfactory living and learning environments. Further developments are anticipated as the inquiry committee commences its work.
