Woman Alleges Domestic Abuse During Honeymoon in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

The CSR Journal Magazine

A woman from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, has reported that she was physically assaulted by her husband during their honeymoon due to her menstruation. According to her account, the incident took place in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands shortly after she began her period. Following the complaint, police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband, Nikhil Mishra, along with his mother and sister.

The complainant stated that Mishra reportedly slapped, kicked, and attempted to strangle her upon learning about her menstrual condition. She claims that the hotel staff intervened when they heard her screams, thereby preventing further harm.

Background of the Marriage

The woman revealed that she married Nikhil Mishra on May 30, 2026, in a ceremony held at a marriage lawn in Delhi. She noted that her in-laws had insisted that the items her family provided as part of the dowry be branded, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere prior to the wedding. The woman’s father allegedly provided approximately Rs 20 lakh in cash, a vehicle, and other possessions estimated to be worth around Rs 40 lakh as part of the dowry.

After the wedding, she moved into her marital home in Delhi on June 2, 2026. However, she claims that her in-laws began to mock and demean her regarding the dowry items. This mental harassment reportedly escalated over the following weeks, leading to a difficult home environment.

Consequences and Legal Action

On July 4, 2026, approximately a month after their marriage, the couple travelled to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for their honeymoon. During the trip, the complainant experienced severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding, which led to her husband’s angry reaction. He allegedly questioned her lack of prior notification about her period and accused her of ruining his mood.

Upon returning to Delhi, the woman claims she informed her mother-in-law and sister-in-law about the ordeal. Instead of offering support, they allegedly subjected her to further emotional abuse. On July 14, 2026, approximately 45 days post-marriage, she asserts that she was forcibly removed from her marital home.

Following her expulsion, the complainant alleges that her father was insulted when he attempted to mediate with her in-laws. She also stated that the dowry items she had brought were not returned to her. Furthermore, she claimed that her husband continued to send her threatening messages following the incidents.

Efforts to lodge a complaint were challenging for the woman, as she reportedly faced difficulties in getting the FIR registered with the police. Eventually, on August 15, 2026, after intervention from Gorakhpur’s Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr Kaustubh, the case formally progressed through the registration of the FIR against her husband and in-laws.
