The CSR Journal Magazine

The film Awarapan 2, featuring actor Emraan Hashmi, has achieved significant success at the global box office, reportedly crossing the Rs 100 crore milestone within just three days. This impressive feat allows it to dominate the Independence Day competition against Sunny Deol’s Batwara 1947.

According to data sourced from Sacnilk, the film grossed a total of Rs 110.10 crore worldwide, which includes Rs 12.00 crore from international markets. Domestically, Awarapan 2 stands at Rs 81.75 crore nett, with a gross collection of Rs 98.10 crore, marking an increase of 89 per cent over Hashmi’s previous best opening weekend.

The film is currently being screened across 628 shows nationwide and has garnered an additional Rs 0.05 crore nett from early Monday showings. This latest figure brings the total domestic gross to Rs 98.16 crore and the nett total to Rs 81.80 crore, although final official figures are still being compiled.

Performance Breakdown

On its third day of release, Awarapan 2 earned Rs 26 crore nett in India across 9,403 shows, pushing total ticket sales past 1.59 million during its opening weekend. Despite a slight decline from Saturday’s peak, which witnessed robust audience turnout in both single-screen theatres and national multiplex chains, the film finished its first weekend strongly.

Sunday’s revenue experienced a 23 per cent drop from Saturday’s significant earnings, which had reached Rs 33.75 crore nett across 10,496 shows, fuelled by a 53.4 per cent surge on the Independence Day holiday. Awarapan 2 had commenced its theatrical journey on Friday, recording an opening day collection of Rs 22 crore nett across 9,033 shows.

The solid performance of Awarapan 2 demonstrates its appeal to viewers, with the film maintaining a strong presence in theatres despite facing competition from another release during this festive period.

Competitive Landscape

On Sunday, Batwara 1947 observed a decrease in earnings, netting Rs 7.25 crore across 7,239 shows in India. The film had opened on Friday with Rs 5.75 crore nett from 8,721 shows and saw a considerable increase on Saturday, accumulating Rs 13.75 crore nett across 8,071 shows.

Awarapan 2 and Batwara 1947 both made their theatrical debuts on August 14, creating a competitive clash over the Independence Day weekend. Each film’s performance will continue to be closely monitored as official figures are finalised in the upcoming days.
