Bobby Deol Opens Up on Father’s Loss, Shares How It Brought Him Closer to Sisters

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bobby Deol has expressed that the passing of his father, esteemed actor Dharmendra, has significantly enhanced his relationship with his half-sisters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. At 57, Bobby is still navigating the depths of his sorrow, sharing that he often regrets not having spent more time with his father during his lifetime. In a conversation with Esquire India, he disclosed that he frequently views old reels of Dharmendra on Instagram, feeling a poignant connection, as if his father were communicating directly with him.

Reinforced Family Connections

Bobby observed a notable change in the dynamics within his family, particularly in his sons, following Dharmendra’s demise. He noted that they appear to have developed a greater awareness of the fragility of life and are increasingly cherishing their time together. Bobby reflected on how the shared experience of grief has brought him closer to Esha and Ahana, stating, “We’re all dealing with it in our own ways. Sometimes you misunderstand each other because you’re hurting. Everyone feels their pain is more than the other’s. But you give it time, let it heal. Loss has its own way of bringing a family closer.”

In light of their loss, Bobby articulated a yearning for deeper connections with his loved ones. He mentioned that he often wishes he had engaged more with his father while he was alive, feeling the weight of missed opportunities to ask questions and spend quality time. This realisation has motivated him to prioritise moments with his sons, wife, and family more than ever before.

According to Bobby, conventional markers of success, such as box office figures and critical acclaim, pale in comparison to the value of time spent with family. He reflected on the true essence of success, questioning the merit of fame and wealth without the presence of those he loves to share it with.

Dharmendra’s Legacy and Final Days

The iconic actor Dharmendra passed away at the age of 89 on November 24, 2025, at his residence in Mumbai. His final film, Ikkis, was directed by Sriram Raghavan and premiered on January 1, garnering praise from both audiences and critics alike. The film marked the end of an illustrious career, and earlier this year, Dharmendra was posthumously honoured with the Padma Vibhushan.

Dharmendra leaves behind a legacy that includes two wives, Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, and several children, including Sunny, Bobby, Esha, and Ahana. His influence on Indian cinema is widely acknowledged, and he is remembered for his distinct style and charismatic performances.

The impact of his death continues to resonate within his family, as they navigate their grief while also celebrating his contributions to film and his lasting footprint in the entertainment industry. Bobby’s reflections illustrate the importance of cherishing family bonds during challenging times.
