Bihar Announces Free Bus Travel For Students Taking NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bihar’s Chief Minister, Samrat Choudhary, has announced a significant policy to provide free bus travel for students taking the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam, following a recent controversy surrounding a paper leak. This initiative is expected to ease the burden on candidates and their families as they prepare for the examination scheduled for June 21, 2026. The Chief Minister disclosed this decision in a post on social media platform X, stating that, “For the convenience of all examinees appearing in the NEET examination, travel will be free on all government buses of the state of Bihar.”

Measures To Address Student Needs

In conjunction with the announcement of free transport, Choudhary has encouraged local temples, monasteries, district administrations, and non-governmental organisations to extend their support to students during this critical period. He requested that arrangements be made for essential provisions such as drinking water and food, specifically sattu, at key locations like railway stations and bus stands. This call for support aims to ensure that students and their families have adequate resources while travelling for the re-examination.

The urgency of these measures comes as many NEET candidates are expected to travel considerable distances due to the previous cancellation of the examination on May 3, amid allegations of a paper leak. Reports indicate that over 22 lakh students had registered for the NEET-UG 2026 across India and abroad prior to the cancellation. The emotional and economic pressures faced by these students and their families are significant, making the provision of free transportation and support services timely and necessary.

The Bihar government’s initiative has garnered attention across various media platforms, highlighting the challenges faced by students in navigating the uncertainties of the exam environment. As the re-exam approaches, the focus is intensifying on ensuring that students can travel without additional financial strain.

Political Reactions To The NEET Controversy

The controversy surrounding the NEET examination has sparked varied political responses. Notably, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (R) leader Chirag Paswan has publicly expressed criticism toward the National Testing Agency (NTA), specifically targeting Director-General Abhishek Singh. Paswan has urged the testing agency to adopt a more sensitive approach to such serious incidents, emphasizing that these issues should not recur in future examinations, as they undermine public confidence in the testing system.

In a recent address to the Parliamentary Standing Committee, NTA officials provided insights into the situation, asserting that while certain questions had been compromised, the entire examination paper had not been leaked. The agency reiterated that their decision to cancel the examination stemmed from a strict “zero-tolerance” policy concerning any form of malpractice. Officials communicated their belief that even minor breaches could severely impact the credibility of national examinations.

The forthcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination on June 21 is set to occur under heightened security measures to prevent any further complications. The agency remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process. As students prepare to retake the exam amid these challenges, state support and regulatory responses are crucial to ensuring a fair and equitable testing environment moving forward.
