Barkha Trehan: Men’s Rights Activist Involved in Ink Throwing Incident

The CSR Journal Magazine

Barkha Trehan has drawn attention after allegedly throwing ink at Abhijeet Dipke, the founder of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), during a protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The event occurred on Saturday, July 19, 2026, at around 1.20 pm while Dipke was addressing his supporters. He criticised the Delhi Police for allegedly removing climate activist Sonam Wangchuk from the protest site earlier that day, questioning the absence of uniformed officers in their actions.

As Dipke continued his address, Trehan reportedly approached the stage and threw ink at him from a short distance. Police reports indicate that she was quickly restrained by the CJP supporters and subsequently taken to the Parliament Street police station for further questioning.

Following the incident, Trehan clarified her stance, stating that she did not oppose peaceful protests and had no affiliation with any political party. She contended that the demonstration held by CJP was politically motivated rather than focused on the NEET issue.

Trehan’s Response to the Incident

In a social media post subsequent to the ink-throwing, Trehan expressed her motivations, asserting that she felt compelled to act against derogatory remarks made about Hindu deities by Dipke and his associates during his speech. Trehan identified herself as a staunch believer, stating, “I am proud of this protest.” Her remarks reflected her anger regarding what she perceived as insults directed towards her beliefs.

Moreover, Trehan made allegations that she had been physically assaulted by CJP supporters following the ink-throwing incident. She claimed she was beaten and her hair was pulled, stressing that her actions were a form of protest against intolerance towards religious sentiments. Trehan also raised concerns that Wangchuk was being manipulated by the CJP, drawing a contrast with social activist Anna Hazare.

While being escorted away, Trehan reportedly chanted, “Jai Shri Ram,” indicating her dedication to her beliefs. Law enforcement officials noted that her social media activity often includes criticisms directed at the Cockroach Janta Party, and her profile describes her as a “Hindu entrepreneur” and “Voice of Men.”

Barkha Trehan: Background and Activism

Barkha Trehan is widely known as the chairperson of Purush Aayog (Men’s Commission), an organisation dedicated to advocating men’s rights and pushing for legal reforms concerning genderissues. Through her activism, she has highlighted issues surrounding the alleged misuse of laws related to dowry, domestic violence, and marital disputes.

Trehan has actively called for the creation of a statutory Men’s Commission in India and has advocated for gender-neutral legislation, which she argues would provide balanced justice for all individuals, irrespective of gender. Over the years, she has engaged in several public controversies and has received criticism for her opinions.

Prior to this incident, Trehan had been in the public eye for expressing support for due process in the controversial case concerning former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was convicted in the Unnao rape case. Reports indicate that she was previously seen at Jantar Mantar during a protest organised by her organisation in favour of Sengar, who was being scrutinised for serious allegations related to that case.
