Army Brigadier, Son Assaulted In Delhi After Objecting To Public Drinking

The CSR Journal Magazine

A serving brigadier in the Indian Army, Parminder Singh Arora, and his son, Tejas Singh Arora, were reportedly attacked by a group of men in Delhi after the senior officer objected to alcohol consumption in a parked luxury vehicle. The event allegedly unfolded over the weekend when the father and son were walking near their residence in the Vasant Enclave area of southwest Delhi. Observing two individuals drinking inside a stationary car, Brigadier Arora intervened, leading to an escalation of the situation.

Following the initial objection, the occupants of the vehicle allegedly contacted their associates. Within a brief period, seven to eight other men reportedly arrived in various vehicles, turning the encounter violent. During the confrontation, Tejas, who has graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), was allegedly assaulted. As Brigadier Arora attempted to protect his son, he also claimed to have faced physical aggression from the attackers. Reports indicate that Tejas suffered serious injuries during this incident.

Police Response and Allegations of Inaction

Police were summoned to the scene, but there are allegations that they did not take appropriate action to halt the assault. Nitasha, the wife of Brigadier Arora, claimed that the group threatened her following the violence against her son. She has accused the police officer present of refusing to intervene despite her earnest pleas for help. Additionally, the family alleged that law enforcement officials initially declined to file their complaint at the nearest police station.

The incident has generated considerable outrage on social media platforms, prompting the Delhi Police to register a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including clauses related to voluntary causing hurt, wrongful restraint, and rioting, among others. In a statement, the Delhi Police confirmed the registration of the FIR and mentioned that preliminary investigations revealed a lapse by the inspector in charge, who was subsequently placed on district lines.

Following the FIR registration, police authorities stated, “We have registered an FIR. The accused persons are being traced.”

Indian Army’s Reaction and Support

The Indian Army has acknowledged the situation and confirmed that Brigadier Arora is currently posted with a National Cadet Corps (NCC) unit in Gujarat, while visiting family in Delhi. Throughout his military career, he has served in various sensitive regions, including Kashmir. The Army has engaged with the Delhi Police, advocating for a thorough investigation and immediate action against those involved.

An official statement from the Army noted, “A Military Police team has been directed to assist the officer,” highlighting the seriousness with which the military organisation is addressing the matter.

Furthermore, Brigadier Arora’s wife articulated that despite her son’s condition, the police demanded a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report before processing their complaint and did not provide transportation for hospital treatment. Ultimately, Brigadier Arora took his son to the Army Hospital himself for further medical care and X-rays. An officer familiar with the case countered these claims, asserting that medical assistance was indeed offered and that the family opted for treatment at a military facility where support was provided.
