Apple Foldable iPhone Dummy Unit Leak Reveals Design And Key Features

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone may have moved a step closer to reality. New leaked images of a purported dummy unit have surfaced online, offering what could be the clearest look yet at the company’s first foldable smartphone.

The images, shared by tipster Sonny Dickson on X, showcase a device believed to be the rumoured iPhone Fold. While Apple has not officially confirmed plans for a foldable handset, the latest leak aligns with several previous reports regarding the device’s design, hardware and launch timeline.

If the reports prove accurate, Apple could finally enter the foldable smartphone segment later this year, joining rivals that have spent years refining the category.

Dummy Unit Reveals Passport-Style Foldable Design

The leaked images suggest Apple may adopt a book-style folding design rather than a clamshell format. The form factor appears similar to the original Google Pixel Fold, with a wider outer display and a compact, passport-like shape when folded.

The rear panel features a horizontally positioned pill-shaped camera module containing two camera cut-outs. Unlike the camera bar seen on some recent smartphones, the module does not stretch across the full width of the device.

Additional leaked images from another tipster, Sahil Karoul, indicate an unusual button arrangement. The volume controls appear to be positioned on the top edge of the handset, while the power button remains on the side frame.

The dummy unit also hints that Apple may initially offer the foldable device in a limited number of colours, with white emerging as a possible launch option.

Largest iPhone Display Yet Expected

One of the most significant upgrades could be the display. Reports suggest the foldable iPhone will feature a 7.8-inch OLED inner screen, making it the largest display ever fitted to an iPhone and bringing it close in size to the iPad mini.

The leaked images show a punch-hole camera cut-out positioned near the corner of the inner display. Apple is also believed to be focusing heavily on minimising the visible crease, one of the biggest challenges facing foldable smartphone manufacturers.

The outer display is expected to measure around 5.5 inches. While smaller than the display found on standard flagship iPhones, the wider aspect ratio could offer a more tablet-like experience when unfolded.

Interestingly, reports suggest Apple may omit Face ID from the device due to space constraints. Instead, Touch ID could make a return through a fingerprint sensor integrated into the side-mounted power button.

Premium Hardware And High Price Tag Likely

The foldable iPhone is rumoured to be among Apple’s most advanced smartphones to date. Reports indicate the device could be powered by the A20 Pro chipset, built using a cutting-edge 2nm manufacturing process.

The handset may come with 12GB of RAM and storage options extending up to 1TB. Apple is also reportedly exploring vapour chamber cooling technology, which could help maintain performance during demanding tasks such as gaming and AI-powered applications.

In terms of cameras, the foldable device is tipped to feature a 48-megapixel primary sensor and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera. Two 18-megapixel selfie cameras are also expected, one for each display.

Battery capacity could range between 5,400mAh and 5,800mAh, potentially making it the largest battery ever used in an iPhone.

Software may be another major focus. Apple is expected to leverage its iPad ecosystem to enhance multitasking capabilities on the larger foldable display. Upcoming software updates could introduce features specifically designed for larger-screen productivity.

According to current reports, Apple could unveil the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September. Pricing is expected to start between $2,000 and $2,400, which would place the device among the most expensive smartphones ever launched by the company.

Until Apple makes an official announcement, however, all specifications and launch details remain based on leaks and industry reports.
