Amit Shah, US Ambassador Sergio Gor Discuss Counter-Terrorism and Security Cooperation

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday held a high-level meeting with US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor in New Delhi, with discussions focusing on strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and enhancing cooperation on key security challenges.

The meeting centred on bolstering bilateral security mechanisms, particularly in the areas of counter-terrorism, counter-narcotics and intelligence sharing, as both countries seek to address emerging transnational threats and deepen strategic cooperation.

Focus on Security and Counter-Terrorism

According to the Home Minister’s Office, the discussions underscored the shared commitment of India and the United States to tackle common security challenges in an evolving global environment.

The two sides explored ways to strengthen intelligence-sharing mechanisms and operational cooperation aimed at combating terrorism, which remains a priority for both New Delhi and Washington.

They also discussed developing a more effective framework to disrupt illicit drug trafficking networks that pose threats to regional stability and public safety.

Amit Shah Reaffirms Commitment to Strategic Partnership

Following the meeting, Shah said India remained committed to advancing the Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a post on X, the Home Minister said, “Met U.S. Ambassador to India, Mr. Sergio Gor in New Delhi today. Had a detailed discussion on further strengthening cooperation between India and the U.S. in the area of security, particularly in counter-terrorism and counter-narcotics. Under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi Ji, India is firmly committed to advancing the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and ensuring that the people of both nations benefit from the bilateral relationship.”

Sergio Gor Highlights Shared Priorities

Gor described the meeting as productive and said both sides had discussed several areas of cooperation aimed at enhancing public safety and bringing criminals to justice.

In a post on X, he said, “Had an excellent meeting with Honorable Home Minister @AmitShah. We had a fruitful discussion on enhancing collaboration to combat terrorism, shield our people from narcotics and illicit drugs, secure our borders, and jointly bring criminals to justice in both nations.”

The US envoy met Shah shortly after returning to India from the G7 Summit held in Evian, France.

Sharing a photograph with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on X, Gor wrote, “Lots of positive outcomes between the United States and India!”

Trade and Regional Security Also Discussed at G7

Gor noted that Prime Minister Modi and President Trump held wide-ranging discussions on the sidelines of the G7 Summit, covering trade, regional security and efforts to deepen economic ties between the two countries.

India and the United States also reviewed the progress of negotiations on an interim bilateral trade agreement during the meeting between the two leaders.

The Ministry of External Affairs said US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer would visit India as part of the ongoing discussions aimed at advancing the proposed agreement.

The latest engagements come amid continued efforts by New Delhi and Washington to expand cooperation across strategic, economic and security domains under the framework of the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
