The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has charged Pavel Durov, the founder of the messaging platform Telegram, with facilitating activities linked to terrorism. The allegations are based on claims that Telegram has not adequately removed content reportedly used for coordinating acts of sabotage and terrorism within Russia.

The FSB has also issued an international arrest warrant for Durov, although there has been no immediate response or comment from him or the company. Officials from the security agency suggest that the charges relate to materials on the platform that allegedly assisted Ukrainian special services and various extremist organisations in executing plans associated with mass killings and cyber-fraud within the country.

Telegram, which has gained significant traction since its establishment by Durov in 2013, is claimed to have over one billion users globally. Its role has become increasingly significant amid the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, with the platform being widely utilised for communication by individuals on both sides.
