Samsung Prepares for Launch of New TriFold Phone Next Year

The CSR Journal Magazine

Samsung is reportedly set to unveil a second-generation TriFold smartphone, following the limited release of its first version, the Galaxy Z TriFold, last year. This new model is anticipated to be introduced in 2027. The move comes as part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance its foldable smartphone portfolio, indicating that Samsung is not finished with innovative folding technology.

In its planning, Samsung appears to be following a new “4+4” strategy for 2027. According to sources, this strategy involves launching four models of the Galaxy S27 in the first half of the year, followed by four foldable devices later on. Supply chain partners have been briefed on the forthcoming TriFold development, which is now reportedly in its early phases.

If the information comes to fruition, the Galaxy S27 series is expected to feature standard models such as the Galaxy S27, Galaxy S27 Plus, Galaxy S27 Ultra, and a new version, the Galaxy S27 Pro. For foldable devices, the anticipated lineup includes the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, alongside the newly upgraded Galaxy Z TriFold.

Features and Characteristics of Galaxy Z TriFold 2

The Galaxy Z TriFold is distinct in its design, featuring two hinges that enable the device to fold twice. When completely unfolded, it provides a display nearly 10 inches in size with a 4:3 aspect ratio. This makes it particularly advantageous for activities such as video streaming, gaming, and multitasking compared to conventional foldable smartphones.

Despite its benefits, the TriFold’s extra hinge and larger size result in a device that is heavier and more expensive, presenting challenges for one-handed usage. The inaugural Galaxy Z TriFold was never aimed at mass production, with only about 30,000 units reportedly manufactured worldwide. This device primarily served to illustrate Samsung’s latest advancements in display and hinge technology rather than to achieve substantial sales figures.

Following an evaluation of market feedback from the original model, Samsung is contemplating increasing the production of the second-generation TriFold. However, as of now, the final production numbers for the upcoming model remain unspecified.

Potential Timing and Market Impact

The new TriFold is speculated to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series around July 2027. This is a shift from the initial launch strategy of the first-generation model, which debuted as a limited edition at a later date. Although specifics regarding the specifications of the new TriFold are not yet available, it is expected to maintain a display size similar to that of its predecessor.

It is important to note that Samsung has yet to officially endorse any of these plans, thereby warranting a cautious approach to this information. If these developments are confirmed in the future, 2027 could become a pivotal year for Samsung, marking the introduction of eight flagship devices across both the Galaxy S and foldable product lines.

The interesting developments within Samsung’s product pipeline signify the company’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology, particularly in the folding smartphone sector. As customers and industry followers await official announcements from Samsung, the anticipation builds for what could be a transformative year in premium smartphones.
