Amit Shah Criticizes Rahul Gandhi for Misleading Farmers, Advocates Trade Agreements Beneficial for Fishermen

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has accused Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, of misleading farmers in India. During a public event in Karaikal, Shah defended the free trade agreements (FTAs) established by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, and members of the European Union. He asserted that these agreements would prove to be advantageous for the fishing community in the country.

Allegations of Misinformation Against Gandhi

Shah claimed that Gandhi has made misleading statements regarding these trade deals, alleging that the Congress leader aims to confuse farmers and fishermen. He suggested that Gandhi’s remarks are designed to create disinformation among the public. Shah urged the Rae Bareli MP to familiarize himself with the details surrounding the trade agreements and FTAs before making public comments.

Emphasis on Modi’s Commitment to Farmers

In his address, Shah highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests. He stated, “PM Narendra Modi has worked to provide 100 percent protection to our farmers and livestock owners.” The Home Minister compared the current government’s policies with those of the previous Congress administration led by Manmohan Singh, asserting that farmers suffered during that era due to unfavorable global agreements.

Critique of Gandhi’s Political Approach

Shah also criticized Gandhi’s political strategy, stating that it relies on falsehoods and loud public statements. He expressed confidence that the electorate would reject Gandhi’s narrative in future elections, making a bold prediction that an NDA-led government would be formed under Modi’s leadership in 2029.

Commerce Minister Outlines Benefits of FTAs

In a separate press conference regarding the Viksit Bharat Budget, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal stated that approximately 70 percent of global trade markets are now accessible to India, secured through free trade agreements. He emphasized that these FTAs have granted India preferential access compared to other nations, facilitating enhanced international trade.

Progress on FTAs and Economic Goals

Goyal mentioned that India has successfully concluded nine FTAs with 38 developed countries as part of a broader strategy to achieve self-reliance and transition to a developed nation by 2047. He assured that while negotiating these deals, careful consideration was given to protect local interests, particularly in sensitive sectors such as dairy and farming. Additionally, he noted that sectors with significant employment opportunities, including textiles, leather, and electronics, are now gaining entry into new markets, which would foster business growth and job creation.

Parliamentary Protests Against Trade Agreement

Despite government assertions, opposition members have continued to protest against the India-US interim trade agreement, labeling it a “trap deal” during the ongoing Budget session, which concluded its initial phase on February 13.
