Ambulances Linked to Jewish Community Torched in Golders Green, Hate Crime Probe Launched

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a troubling event, four ambulances associated with the Jewish community service were set ablaze on Monday morning in Golders Green, London. The British police are currently categorizing the occurrence as an antisemitic hate crime. CCTV footage has captured three individuals approaching one of the vehicles and igniting a fire before fleeing the scene, as smoke billowed into the air.

The ambulances are part of Hatzola Northwest, a volunteer organization that offers emergency medical services. Video recordings shared on social media depict the ambulances engulfed in flames with smoke dispersing throughout the surrounding area. The London Fire Brigade has confirmed that the fires resulted in significant damage to the ambulances, with explosions from multiple oxygen cylinders causing windows in a nearby residential block to shatter.

No injuries have been reported as a result of this incident, according to available information. Fire crews reacted promptly, deploying six fire engines staffed by approximately 40 firefighters to manage the situation. Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at approximately 1:45 AM local time on Highfield Road, following multiple fire reports.

Police Superintendent Sarah Jackson, responsible for the area’s policing, acknowledged the community’s concerns regarding the event. She stated that officers are present at the location to conduct immediate inquiries. A review of CCTV and online footage is underway, with initial investigations focused on identifying three suspects. Jackson mentioned that there have been no arrests to date, urging anyone with information to come forward, including anonymous tips.

Jackson also noted the deployment of additional police patrols and the engagement with local faith leaders to help reassure community members during this unsettling time. The neighborhood watch group, Shomrim, indicated that loud explosions were heard shortly after the fire commenced. They clarified that these were the result of oxygen tanks exploding within the ambulances rather than any form of explosive devices.

As a precautionary measure, some buildings were temporarily evacuated, but fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The Metropolitan Police are taking the lead in the investigation, asking residents to steer clear of the area as inquiries continue. The events have generated concern within the community, prompting heightened security measures by the authorities to ensure public safety.
