The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has confirmed that all fifteen individuals who lost their lives in the boat capsizing near Phu Quoc Island were Indian nationals. This tragic incident occurred on the morning of July 11, 2026. The Embassy shared the names of the deceased on social media, having received the information from local Vietnamese authorities.

According to the Embassy’s announcement, the deceased included two women and thirteen men. Among them, ten individuals hailed from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala. The Embassy expressed sincere condolences to the grieving families affected by this calamity.

In their statement, the Embassy declared, “It is with profound grief that we share the list of 15 Indian nationals who have lost their lives in the tragic boat accident near Phu Quoc Island today. Our prayers are with the families of the deceased.” They also offered support to those in need.

Details of the Capsize and Rescue Efforts

The vessel was reportedly carrying thirty-six individuals, including thirty-two Indian tourists, as well as three crew members and an attendant. Following the accident, twenty-one people—including seventeen passengers and four crew members—were rescued and transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. Two survivors remain in critical condition and are currently undergoing intensive care.

In response to the emergency, the Vietnam Coast Guard’s Region 4 Command swiftly mobilised personnel and equipment. Upon receiving news of the incident near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, the Command dispatched a coast guard vessel that was already in operation, along with two high-speed rescue boats, comprising a total of forty officers and personnel. Their efforts ensured that all thirty-six individuals aboard the capsized boat were brought safely ashore.

Local residents participated in the rescue operations, working alongside the coast guard to assist those who had been on the boat. The quick response and collaboration among the various teams contributed significantly to the rescue mission’s success.
