The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly greeted by the Indian diaspora upon his arrival in Rome on Tuesday, as part of the final segment of his five-nation tour. Vibrant interactions with members of the Indian community marked his visit, showcasing cultural performances at his hotel. A moment of particular joy occurred when the Prime Minister signed an autograph for a young admirer presenting him with a hand-drawn portrait.

Among those in attendance was Svamini Shuddhananda Ghiri, who previously met PM Modi in 2021. She expressed her delight at the recognition of the Sanatana Dharma Samgha as an official religion in Italy by the Italian Parliament, a significant achievement for the community. Despite the time elapsed since their last meeting, she noted, “I am very happy, and this is the second time we met him. He has supported our mission in Italy,” she stated.

Community Joy and Cultural Representation

Members of the Indian diaspora shared their excitement following the opportunity to meet the Prime Minister. One individual conveyed, “We are very much delighted with the way he came and addressed us; it is a very special moment for us.” Their sentiment reflects a broader appreciation for PM Modi’s efforts to foster a sense of unity and togetherness among the Indian community abroad.

The Prime Minister also engaged with the cultural outputs of the community, showcasing a painting inspired by Indian culture and created by an Italian artist. The artist expressed their enthusiasm, stating, “The experience was fantastic. It was one of the best experiences of my life.” They highlighted that the artwork serves as a link between Italian perspectives and India’s vibrant heritage.

Artists who performed to welcome PM Modi described their experiences with great enthusiasm. One performer, who has lived in India for fifteen years, noted their joy after the performance. Another artist elaborated on their contribution, sharing, “We performed a traditional composition based on Raga Hamsadhwani, creating a piece together for the Prime Minister of India.” They expressed a renewed motivation to disseminate Indian cultural values in Italy and beyond.

Strengthening India-Italy Relations

PM Modi’s visit to Italy comes at a time of robust development in India-Italy relations, reflected in the advancing Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-2029. This plan encompasses various areas of cooperation, including trade, defence, clean energy, and innovation, indicating a mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Recent trade figures underscore the significance of this partnership, with bilateral trade reaching $16.77 billion in 2025. Cumulative foreign direct investment from Italy in India stands at $3.66 billion, recorded between April 2000 and September 2025. As both nations work closely towards shared goals, this visit exemplifies their ongoing collaboration.

Prior to his arrival in Rome, PM Modi visited Norway for the fourth leg of his tour, having also been to Sweden, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates earlier. Each destination in this extensive journey underscored the Prime Minister’s efforts to forge stronger international alliances and enhance India’s global presence.
