70-Year-Old Odisha Man Survives Four Hours Trapped in Bed With Venomous Snake

The CSR Journal Magazine

An elderly man from Boudh district in Odisha survived a frightening situation over a span of four hours, during which a venomous snake wrapped around his hand while he lay in bed. The incident occurred in the village of Adenigarh within the Harabhanga block and involved 70-year-old Krushna Chandra Sahu, who has limited mobility due to a previous stroke. This unexpected encounter left both his family and neighbours in shock.

Details of the Encounter

The disturbing incident reportedly took place late at night while Sahu was asleep. Family members stated that a window had been left open, enabling the snake to enter the house without being noticed. At some point during the night, the snake crawled onto Sahu’s bed and began moving across his body. As Sahu became aware of the reptile’s presence, his paralysis hindered his ability to react swiftly or escape.

As he attempted to shift his position slightly, the situation turned more perilous. The snake allegedly coiled itself around one of Sahu’s hands and secured part of its body around a nearby chair, trapping him in place. Remaining incapacitated, Sahu had no choice but to lie still for hours, fearing any sudden movements might provoke an attack from the snake.

In the early hours of the morning, family members noticed an unusual silence and decided to check on Sahu. Upon entering the room, they were taken aback to discover the elderly man ensnared by the snake, which had firmly wrapped itself around his hand and the chair. Realising the potential danger of a hurried rescue, they opted to monitor the scene carefully instead of attempting a quick removal of the reptile.

Rescue and Aftermath

While the family kept a close eye on the snake’s movements, they began to think through their next steps. A rescue strategy was necessary to avoid agitating the snake and risking an attack. After almost four tense hours, the family successfully managed to free Sahu from the snake’s grasp without causing any harm to either party. This careful and calculated approach ensured a safer outcome during a highly stressful situation.

Remarkably, despite being in such close proximity to a venomous snake for an extended period, Sahu was not bitten and suffered no major injuries. Following the incident, he is reported to be safe and is in recovery, gradually coming to terms with the shock of the experience. His family expressed immense relief at the outcome, given how precarious the circumstances had been.

The unusual nature of this incident has quickly become a topic of conversation throughout the village, with many residents considering Sahu’s survival as miraculous. Stories of the ordeal have spread, illustrating both the dangers posed by wildlife in residential areas and the resilience of those affected. As the community discusses the event, it serves as a reminder of the unexpected encounters that can occur in daily life.
