40,000 Videos And Conversion Allegations Spark Controversy In Kota

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Kota case has garnered significant attention due to claims involving more than 40,000 obscene videos, allegations of religion-based conversion, and purported connections to Pakistan. These allegations have incited demands for a national-level investigation, particularly from the Bajrang Dal. Current police statements indicate that the inquiry has not verified many of these claims at this stage.

The matter came to light on June 15, when Bajrang Dal activist Yogesh Renwal lodged a complaint at the Vigyan Nagar police station. This led the police to register a case against Manish Sharma under various legal provisions, including certain sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. Subsequently, the accused was apprehended.

According to Bajrang Dal assertions, Sharma, who allegedly used the name Moin Khan, was active on social media platforms such as Telegram, Snapchat, and Discord. The organisation claims that he specifically targeted Hindu women and engaged in activities that involved the collection of explicit videos and disrespect towards religious symbols.

Details And Allegations Against The Accused

Renwal’s complaint cites the discovery of over 40,000 videos on Sharma’s mobile device. Allegations include that several videos depicted women adorned with Hindu symbols like “Om” and “Swastik,” and contained objectionable content related to Hindu deities, including images of Shivling. Renwal also claimed that Sharma underwent circumcision and converted to another religion prior to engaging in these activities.

Additionally, Bajrang Dal has asserted that certain groups on Telegram contained discussions focused on targeting Hindu women, with claims of trapping them and recording videos. Phrases such as “Jihad-al-Akbar” and “Ghazwa-e-Hind” were reportedly referenced in some discussions linked to these groups.

Further accusations suggest that audio clips collected during the investigation point to individuals allegedly associated with Pakistan who purportedly provided instructions to those involved in this situation. Consequently, Bajrang Dal has reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Chief Minister, demanding a thorough investigation by national agencies.

Police Investigation And Statements

As the case drew significant public scrutiny, police clarified that their investigation had yet to confirm much of the information presented. Kota City Additional Superintendent of Police Subhash Mishra stated that there is no evidence supporting claims of religious conversion. He noted, “Any kind of religious conversion has not come to light,” and added that the investigation has not revealed any facts linked to the insult of Hindu deities.

Mishra elaborated that the only findings so far pertain to Sharma’s involvement with various Telegram groups where he allegedly viewed obscene videos and content. Based on these findings, charges were filed against him, leading to his arrest. It was also mentioned that investigators had not encountered any audio evidence substantiating a Pakistan connection or any details warranting action under conversion laws.

Investigating Officer CI Mangilal stated that Manish Sharma resides in Vigyan Nagar and had assumed the alias Moin Khan while participating in various Telegram groups. He confirmed that Sharma had downloaded explicit videos and images from these groups onto his device. However, investigators have not yet ascertained whether Sharma underwent circumcision. Currently, the accused remains in custody as the inquiry continues, using digital evidence, mobile data, and social media activity as points of focus.
