A 34-year-old man has been arrested in Lucknow after a police encounter on May 31, following allegations of brutal assault and molestation of a woman. The accused, Sunny Yadav, engaged in a shootout with police near Kukrail Bridge, reportedly injuring a police vehicle with gunfire.

According to District Police Commissioner Deeksha Sharma, the incident was prompted by a report made under the jurisdiction of the Vikas Nagar police station. The police swiftly filed a criminal case under several stringent legal provisions and deployed multiple teams to apprehend the suspect promptly.

Early on the day of the incident, law enforcement located Yadav near Kukrail Bridge. Upon the police’s approach, he allegedly fired at them, prompting an exchange where he sustained a gunshot wound to his right leg. Following his apprehension, Yadav was transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Charges and Ongoing Investigations

The authorities have commenced detailed interrogation of Yadav while formal legal proceedings are being initiated against him. The police have not disclosed further details regarding the conditions surrounding the alleged assault, highlighting the ongoing nature of the investigation.

In a separate but equally grave incident, three individuals were arrested in connection with the murder of Shivam Singh, a youth leader affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This incident occurred in the Vibhutikhand police station area, with arrests taking place shortly after the murder was reported on May 26.

Singh suffered fatal injuries resulting from an assault involving stones during the night of May 25-26, ultimately leading to his death while receiving medical care. Following this tragedy, authorities registered a murder case, launching an inquiry which involved reviewing CCTV footage and gathering technical evidence to secure the identities of the suspects.

Manhunt for Additional Suspect

As a result of the investigation into Shivam Singh’s murder, three suspects have been apprehended. They have been identified as Shantanu alias Ankit Rawat, Honey Tiwari alias Vivek, and Vivek Singh. In a significant breakthrough, police recovered the stone used in the attack based on information provided by the arrested individuals during questioning.

Authorities are continuing their efforts to locate a fourth suspect, Anuj Singh, who remains elusive. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, East, in the Lucknow Commissionerate, announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for credible information that could assist in his capture.

The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice in both cases while emphasising the seriousness of the crimes involved. Community safety remains a priority as the investigation into these incidents progresses.
