Yash Calls ‘Toxic’ a Unique Storytelling Experience

The CSR Journal Magazine

Yash has shared insights regarding his upcoming film, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grownups, during a promotional interview, highlighting it as an atypical gangster-action movie. At the CinemaCon 2026 event held in Los Angeles, the 40-year-old actor elaborated on the film, describing it as a complex narrative that transcends simple genres.

In a clip that gained considerable attention, Yash referred to Toxic as “layered,” indicating that while it might present itself as a standard action film, it encompasses deeper themes and complexities. He emphasised that this film deviates from the typical gangster storyline, suggesting a rich tapestry of psychological elements and human experiences that audiences can connect with.

Collaboration with Geetu Mohandas

Yash expressed admiration for the film’s director, Geetu Mohandas, praising her ability to meld action with deeper psychological exploration. He noted, “It’s a very unique way to present a dark character,” further affirming his enthusiasm for the project. Yash highlighted the use of skilled technicians in the filmmaking process, suggesting that Mohandas has offered a fresh perspective on the gangster genre.

He added that Toxic aims to be visually impressive while also leaving a significant impact on the psychological state of its audience. Yash’s reflections indicate a commitment to pushing boundaries within the genre while offering something that resonates on multiple levels.

Furthermore, he underscored the ambition behind Toxic, revealing that it is the first film for which shooting has also been conducted in English, aiming to widen its reach to international audiences.

Observations on Indian Cinema’s Evolution

During the conversation, Yash also addressed the evolution of Indian cinema over the years, acknowledging the country’s cultural diversity. He described India as “a world in itself,” noting that varying languages and cultures can be found within just a few hundred kilometres. His observations reflect an awareness of how regional narratives are merging within the broader landscape of Indian film.

In that context, Yash positioned Toxic as part of this ongoing transformation, emphasising that the film is firmly rooted in Indian sensibilities while striving to appeal to a global audience. He stated, “It’s one of those films that caters to everyone while offering a very unique experience,” indicating a desire for widespread resonance.

Promotion of Ramayana at CinemaCon 2026

At the same event, Yash was joined by producer Namit Malhotra to promote their film Ramayana, which has been significantly spotlighted on the international stage. Following its initial unveiling of the first look at Lord Rama earlier in April, this marked the film’s second significant promotional event.

In Ramayana, Yash portrays the role of the demon king Ravana, with a talented cast including Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as goddess Sita, and Ravie Dubey as Lakshmana. This adaptation, directed by Nitesh Tiwari and enhanced with advanced VFX from DNEG, is being anticipated as a major Diwali release for this year.

As Yash continues to explore diverse storytelling avenues with projects like Toxic and Ramayana, he reinforces his commitment to delivering compelling narratives that reflect both local and global themes.
