Widespread Rain and Thunderstorms Forecast for India on Wednesday

The CSR Journal Magazine

A new weather disturbance is poised to bring significant rainfall and thunderstorms to various parts of India on Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for extensive weather activity impacting the northern, central, and eastern regions of the country. Light to moderate rain, combined with thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph, are anticipated across a large swath of northwest India, including states such as Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. These conditions are projected to continue into March 20.

Rain and Snow Expected in the Western Himalayan Region

The Western Himalayan area will also experience active weather patterns, with a forecast of widespread rainfall and snowfall from March 18 to 20. Isolated heavy precipitation is likely in Himachal Pradesh on March 19 and 20, while Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir may witness intense active weather conditions on March 20. Hail is expected to occur in Himachal Pradesh on March 18 and 19, and the same is predicted for Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan over March 19 and 20.

Conditions in East and Central India

In east and central India, the weather will feature scattered to generally widespread rainfall through the week. States such as Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms in some locations. Heavy rainfall and squally conditions are expected in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim around March 20.

Impact on Northeast and Southern Regions

Northeast India is forecast to receive widespread rainfall alongside thunderstorms over the upcoming days, although the intensity of heavy rainfall is expected to diminish after the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the southern states of Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala are also anticipated to experience scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds through March 21.

Temperature Outlook and Safety Precautions

The IMD has highlighted that due to the extensive thunderstorm activity, daytime temperatures across much of the country are likely to remain normal to below normal during the following week. There are no significant heatwave conditions expected for this period. While the weather change may provide temporary relief from rising temperatures, officials have urged the public to remain cautious due to the risks posed by thunderstorms, lightning, and hailstorms, which may affect agriculture and daily activities.
