ISRO Prepares For Launch Of EOS-05 On GSLV-F17 Five Years After GISAT-1 Mission Failure

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is on the brink of a significant milestone with the imminent launch of EOS-05 aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket. This launch occurs nearly five years after ISRO’s unsuccessful attempt with the GISAT-1 mission, which faced a critical setback. The EOS-05 spacecraft is a cutting-edge Earth observation satellite and will be India’s inaugural imaging satellite operating from a geosynchronous orbit, enabling continuous monitoring of targeted areas.

Designed to lift off from the Second Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, GSLV-F17 represents the 19th flight in India’s Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle programme. The rocket aims to deliver EOS-05 into a Sub-Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit, or Sub-GTO, utilising a four-metre-diameter Ogive composite payload fairing. GISAT-1’s primary function was to provide near-real-time imaging of the Indian subcontinent from geostationary orbit, a capability pivotal for quick data recovery in various situations.
