Dehradun T20 League 2026 Announces Captains Ahead of Launch

The inaugural Dehradun T20 League 2026 is set to commence on September 2 at the Abhimanyu Cricket Academy in Dehradun, and the six participating franchises have officially introduced their captains. The eight-day tournament, running from September 2 to September 9, aims to blend experience from the Indian Premier League (IPL), domestic cricket backgrounds, and emerging local talent, as teams compete for the first-ever league title.

The Doiwala Kings will be captained by TNR Mohit, while IPL player Akash Madhwal will lead the Mussoorie Thunder. Rishikesh Dragons have selected Yuvraj Chaudhary as their captain, and Kunal Chandela will take the helm for Vikasnagar Dhamaka. The Herbertpur Knightriders have appointed Jagadeesha Suchith as their captain, with Piyush Joshi leading the Selakui Strikers, according to a press release.

The selection of these experienced players is anticipated to enhance the tournament’s quality and competitiveness, offering local cricketers the chance to learn from established figures in a high-stakes environment. Navneet Mishra, CEO of the Dehradun T20 League, expressed optimism regarding the chosen captains and their role in the development of emerging cricketing talent in Uttarakhand.

Mishra stated, “Having experienced and capable players lead the six teams is a major advantage for the Dehradun T20 League. Captains such as Akash Madhwal and Jagadeesha Suchith bring valuable experience from IPL and domestic cricket, while TNR Mohit, Yuvraj Chaudhary, Kunal Chandela, and Piyush Joshi are well aware of the local cricketing landscape and the potential of players from the region. Their leadership will be crucial not only in the competition but also in aiding young players to learn, adapt, and perform at this level.”

The format of the tournament will consist of a total of 18 matches, where the six franchises will compete in a round-robin league phase. Each team is scheduled to play five matches in the league, vying for a place in the knockout rounds.

Following the league stage, the top teams will advance to the two semi-finals on September 8, with the victorious teams progressing to the grand final set for September 9. The event will mark the crowning of the inaugural Dehradun T20 League champion.

With the captains now confirmed and final preparations underway, enthusiasm is growing for what is poised to be an exhilarating first edition of the Dehradun T20 League. The tournament aims to create a competitive platform for cricketing talent not only from Dehradun but across the wider Uttarakhand region.
