The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has made an announcement regarding the recruitment of 176 Scientist Engineer ‘SC’ posts available across its various centres and the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL). Eligible engineering graduates are invited to submit their applications online via the official ISRO recruitment website, isro.gov.in. The deadline for applications is September 16, 2026, at 11:55 pm. This initiative aims to attract young engineering professionals interested in advancing their careers in India’s space and research programmes.

The vacancies are categorised under Group ‘A’ and offer remuneration at Level 10 in the pay matrix. The recruitment process is intended for recent graduates looking to engage in critical programmes, projects, and research initiatives conducted by ISRO and its affiliated centres.

Breakdown of Vacancies

Of the total 176 vacancies, the Electronics discipline has the largest allocation, with 100 posts available. This includes 99 positions spread across various ISRO centres and one at the Physical Research Laboratory. Following Electronics, the Mechanical Engineering field has 53 vacancies, split into 52 positions at ISRO centres and one at the PRL. Additionally, there are 23 openings in Computer Science, comprising 21 posts in ISRO centres and one in PRL.

The recruitment aims to provide engineering graduates an opportunity to participate in a broad array of projects and research activities undertaken by ISRO. This encompasses not only technical work but also involvement in innovative engineering challenges that contribute to national goals in space exploration and science.

Applicants for the positions are encouraged to prepare themselves for active roles in one of the country’s most distinguished scientific organisations, where they can significantly impact the future of space research in India.

Eligibility Criteria and Selection Process

Candidates interested in the ISRO Scientist Engineer ‘SC’ vacancies must possess a BE, BTech, or an equivalent degree in a relevant engineering discipline. For those applying for Electronics roles, a degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering is mandatory. Mechanical and Computer Science applicants must hold the appropriate engineering qualifications as well. A minimum of 65 per cent marks or a CGPA of 6.84 out of 10 is required to qualify.

The upper age limit for applicants is 28 years as of September 16, 2026. However, age relaxations are available for candidates belonging to reserved categories, ex-servicemen, Central Government employees, and PwBD individuals, in accordance with applicable regulations.

The selection procedure will include a written test that is computer-based, followed by a personal interview. The written examination, scheduled to take place in 37 cities across India, will be worth 100 marks and will feature two distinct parts. Part A will consist of 80 discipline-specific objective questions, to be completed within 90 minutes. Part B will include up to 15 aptitude-based questions, with a total of 20 marks, allowing for 30 minutes and without negative marking.

Candidates will be shortlisted for the interview in a ratio of one to five based on their performance in the written examination. The interview stage will similarly carry a weight of 100 marks, focusing on the candidate’s technical knowledge, communication skills, general awareness, and educational background.

Unreserved candidates must achieve a minimum of 50 per cent in the interview and 60 per cent overall to be considered for placement. The final merit list will balance the scores from the written test and the interview equally.
