Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, long-neglected rivers across Uttar Pradesh are being revived, turning once-dry and encroached streams into flowing lifelines. This environmental transformation is driving a broader wave of greenery and rural renewal, with over 2.14 crore saplings planted along 82 rivers, marking a major step toward ecological balance and sustainable development.
Leading Uttar Pradesh’s green revolution, Jalaun district has planted over 31 lakh saplings along riverbanks, followed by Jhansi with 24 lakh and Hamirpur with over 16 lakh. The ambitious plantation drive continues to advance at a remarkable pace, reinforcing the state’s commitment to ecological restoration.
Over 2.14 Crore Saplings Along 82 Rivers
On CM Yogi’s directive, the rejuvenation of small rivers across all districts is underway on a war footing. Departments like the State Mission for Clean Ganga, Namami Gange, and the Rural Water Supply Department are operating in mission mode. Simultaneously, ponds are being desilted under MGNREGA, while the Forest Department and District Ganga Committees are driving large-scale plantations along riverbanks.
This transformation is not just the result of government intervention; it is the outcome of a powerful synergy between administrative resolve, political will, and active public participation. The revival projects reflect both the visionary leadership of CM Yogi Adityanath and the aspirations of the people.
Rivers Targeted for Rejuvenation
Beyond ecological gains, the rejuvenation of rivers is significantly benefiting agriculture. With improved water availability, farmers now have better access to irrigation, resulting in higher crop yields and a stronger rural economy. Groundwater levels are also seeing a positive shift.
This campaign is not merely about reviving rivers; it is about laying the foundation for a greener, more sustainable future. Uttar Pradesh is steadily moving towards becoming a ‘Green State’, setting an inspiring example of environmental responsibility and socio-economic renewal.
From Ganga to Peeli Nadi
Plantation efforts are underway on the banks of major rivers, including the Ganga, Yamuna, Gomti, Saryu, Tamsa, Mandakini, Rapti, Betwa, and Ghaghra, as well as numerous other rivers such as Ishan, Noon, and Peeli Nadi. At least one river is being rejuvenated in each district.
