A fire occurred on Friday at a private hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, specifically in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). The incident involved the hospital’s Asian Hospital, where staff noticed smoke emanating from an air-conditioning unit. This situation prompted immediate action to ensure the safety of vulnerable patients in the facility.

The hospital administration reported that all nine newborns requiring specialised care were successfully evacuated. Thankfully, there were no injuries or casualties associated with this incident. Efforts were made to ensure the safety of both the infants and other patients in the general ward adjacent to the NICU.

Shoeb Hashmi, the individual overseeing the hospital, explained that the evacuation was executed promptly to avert any potential dangers. He stated that the situation was contained without any further complications, enabling a swift return to normal operations post-incident.

As a measure of caution, the hospital staff evacuated not only the newborns but also patients from the adjoining general ward to ensure their safety during the emergency. Following the evacuation, the patients from the general ward were later returned to their rooms as the situation stabilised.The timely evacuation and management of the incident reflected the hospital staff’s preparedness and commitment to patient safety. The fire was reportedly dealt with effectively, with no significant disaster arising from the event, as confirmed by both the hospital and local authorities.
