The CSR Journal Magazine

The Uttar Pradesh Cyber Police have successfully disrupted a significant online pornography network based in Hardoi. This network reportedly involved multiple social media platforms and implicated thousands of minors in illicit activities. The primary suspect, identified as Vikas Singh, has been apprehended following a police operation initiated after a tip-off on May 17.

According to Ankit Mishra, the City Circle Officer of Hardoi, the information received detailed Singh’s alleged dissemination of objectionable content aimed at minors. Subsequently, a case was filed under appropriate legal provisions, and a team was dispatched to effectuate the arrest.

Upon interrogation, authorities uncovered the extensive operations of the network, which Vikas Singh allegedly orchestrated using popular messaging and social media applications. Reports indicate that he had created around 21 groups and channels across platforms such as Telegram and Instagram for this purpose.

Scale of the Network and User Involvement

The police revealed startling statistics regarding the network’s reach. Approximately 7,000 users were found to be connected to the groups managed by Singh, with a significant portion of this user base reportedly comprising minors. Investigators discovered explicit content amassed within these channels, with the total count nearing 10,000 videos and 40,000 obscene photographs.

This collection of material was alleged to have been made available to users through subscription-based plans, raising concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. The police’s findings indicate a comprehensive operation designed to maintain user engagement at a large scale.

Authorities also noted that the financial aspect of this operation revealed substantial gains. Singh’s bank accounts were investigated, uncovering a balance of approximately Rs 1.20 crore. Reports indicate that Singh had been engaging in such activities since 2020, following his graduation with a B.Tech degree in 2019.

Modus Operandi and Future Investigations

Furthermore, it has been reported that Singh primarily sourced the explicit content by downloading material from the internet, which raises additional concerns about copyright violations. The police have stated that investigations will continue to explore any further connections or collaborators involved in this extensive network.

This bust serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by online predatory behaviour, especially concerning minors. As the investigation proceeds, authorities are expected to implement measures aimed at increasing awareness and safeguarding potential victims of such cyber crimes.
